QUE PASA 3/31/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

         Throughout Lent, the students have been learning and acting upon different ways that they can grow closer to God.  Now that we find ourselves in the middle of Holy Week, I hope you find that your journey through Lent has brought you and your family closer to God, and that together, even through these challenging times, we can keep our faith strong and share the love that God the Father has shown us.  Remember Jesus’ gift of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us on Good Friday so that our sins could be forgiven. Together, take time to say a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s love as we await Jesus’ resurrection on Easter. 

We pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of everlasting life brought about by the resurrection of your son from the dead! This dark night is enlightened by a glimpse of the greatest mystery.  Our minds could never have conceived how you would save us, Lord, nor can we ever fully understand the depths of your love in choosing to do so.  We thank you for all that you have done for us throughout Lent. Now, throughout Easter, grant us the fullness of life. AMEN.

EASTER VACATION

Today, March 31, we will have our usual Minimum Day dismissal for Faculty Meetings.  

Thursday, April 1 (Holy Thursday) is also a minimum Day dismissal for the start of Easter Vacation.  

Easter Vacation is from Friday, April 2 through Sunday, April 11.  Classes will resume with a regular schedule on Monday, April 12.

*San Francisco Department of Public Health discourages any non-essential travel during the pandemic.  However, if you will be traveling during the Easter break, please follow the 10-day quarantine upon your return home, and notify your child’s teacher and/or the school office.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Thanks to the support and teamwork from all members of our school community, St. Peter’s School earned a full 6-year accreditation last year.  In the years leading up to our next accreditation review, the school is required to survey the school community in a variety of domains relating to Catholic Identity. This year, the survey is about “Prayer and the Sacraments” and “Signs and Sacramentals.”  Because of the pandemic and COVID-19 protocols, we know that our school activities are different.  However, please complete this survey as best as you can.  Your input is important to the school as we identify strengths and areas for growth.

RE-REGISTRATION FOR 2021-2022

The 2021-2022 tuition rates and YELLOW re-registration forms have been distributed.  Please return the completed re-registration form by TODAY--March 31, in order to help us plan for the upcoming school year.  The per-student re-registration fee is due by April 15. If you did not receive a hard copy of the re-registration form and the tuition update letter, they were also posted on Class Dojo on March 23.  Please call the office if you have any questions!

 

BASIC FUND APPLICATIONS

New Applications:  The BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year are available online on www.basicfund.org. Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline TODAY--March 31, 2021.

Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families. The BASIC Fund has emailed families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage. Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline TODAY--March 31, 2021.

 

ARCHDIOCESE ELEMENTARY FAMILY GRANT

The application process for the Archdiocese Family Grant for the 2021-2022 school year has now begun.  Please go on to mytads.com to begin the application process. If you do not have ready your 2020 income tax or financial information. be sure you submit your 2019 income tax information or 2019 income information (Calworks, social security, food stamps, etc.).  You should upload or fax to Tads your 2020 income tax or 2020 financial information before the deadline. Please be sure you have completed the total Tads process by the Archdiocese deadline—April 15, 2021.

COVID-19 NOTIFICATION

As announced via email on March 24, there was a COVID-19 exposure in a particular class cohort at our school.  This class is currently in quarantine and will stay home until they are safe to come back to school for in-person learning.  Other classes are cleared to remain open, and in-person learning will continue as usual in those classes.

To help keep our community safe, please see the COVID-19 REMINDERS below and continue to practice all safety protocols.  Thank you for your cooperation.

We continue to practice infection mitigation protocols at school, and if your child is not feeling well, please do not send him/her to school unless cleared to do so.  Symptoms to watch for include:

·        Fever or Chills

·       Cough

·       Shortness of breath, rapid breathing, or difficulty breathing

·       Loss of taste or smell.  Children may complain that food “tastes bad” or “tastes funny”

·       Congested or runny nose

·       Sore throat

·       Headache

·       Muscle aches or body aches

·       Feeling unusually fatigued or tired

·       Diarrhea

·       Nausea or vomiting

QUE PASA 3/24/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        We are fast approaching the beginning of Holy Week this coming Sunday, which is Palm Sunday.  At school, children have been preparing their hearts for Jesus’ death and resurrection by reflecting with their teachers, writing special prayers, learning about the Stations of the Cross, and attending virtual Mass. During your Lenten journey, I pray that you and your family have grown closer to God, and continue to strengthen your faith and service towards God during Holy Week and throughout the year.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we enter into Holy Week so that we might accompany you through your passion to your death. We have to remember that your story does not end in sadness. Rather, your story is the greatest love story that we could ever know. Holy Week gives us an opportunity to participate in that love story in a profound and personal way. We pray that you give us a special attentiveness during Holy Week, Lord. Shower us with your grace!  AMEN.

DROP-OFFS and PICK-UPS

We are grateful to have more students now participating in in-person learning in the school building.  However, with the increased number of students at school, the areas for morning drop-offs and pick-ups are becoming more congested.  To help alleviate the congestion and to keep everyone safe, please do not leave your car unattended in the white zones, and do your best to drop off your child at your assigned times:

- 7:45 – 7:55 … Last Names A-F

- 7:55 – 8:05 … Last names G-O

- 8:05 – 8:15 … Last names P-Z

For the afternoons, please come at the assigned pick-up times.  If you have more than one child to pick up, please come at the time of the older sibling. The younger sibling will wait in their classroom until they are called for pick-up.

QUE PASA 3/17/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        We are now in the fourth week of Lent!  How are you and your family growing closer to God? Reflect on what makes you unwell, not necessarily physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually. What unhealthy thing takes up the space in your heart, mind, and soul that belongs to God?  As the Psalm below says, let us remember that God is merciful and always present, especially in our times of need.

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The LORD is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.
The LORD is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The LORD lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The LORD is just in all his ways
and holy in all his works.
The LORD is near to all who call upon him,
to all who call upon him in truth.
The Lord is gracious and merciful.

QUE PASA 3/10/2021 (English)

Dear Parents,

        A year ago, we were wrapping up with our big school accreditation visit.  Our school community worked together to successfully earn the full 6-year accreditation term! At the same time, we were planning the closure of our school, and becoming more familiar of the effects of COVID-19. We made major adjustments in a very short period, and again, our school community banded together to overcome obstacles.

        As we continue our reflections during Lent, I think back on these events, and am grateful for our community—our teachers, staff, parents, students, and many others who have supported us through challenging times.  True to our Growth Mindset, we still are learning and living through difficulties, but we have learned and grown so much over the past year.  Moving forward during Lent, let us reflect on how we’ve maintained our open hearts and minds, and live out our KEYS to help others and help ourselves grow closer to God!

SPECIAL LENTEN ACTIVITIES

Congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd graders and older students who received the sacrament of First Reconciliation.  They are all one step closer to receiving Jesus at their First Communion.

We are also proud of our 7th graders, who are currently participating in a Virtual Retreat this entire week.  Though they are not able to attend their 5-day overnight Caritas Creek retreat at CYO camp, they are building community through activities with their camp leader via Zoom.  Keep up the good work, 7th graders!

THIS WEEK! - PARENT-TEACHER ZOOM CONFERENCES

We are now in the third and final trimester of the school year. Teachers are continuing to meet with parents for Parent-Teacher Zoom conferences today and tomorrow, and parents will receive their child’s report card at this time. Parent-Teacher conferences are mandatory for each student, as this is an important time for conversations regarding students’ progress.

**In order to accommodate more Parent-Teacher Conference appointment times, Tuesday, March 9; Wednesday, March 10; and Thursday, March 11 are all MINIMUM DAYS with early dismissal times!  (12:15/12:30/12:40 dismissals—according to grade level.) Friday, March 12 will return to the regular dismissal schedule.

Dear Parents,

        With all the different responsibilities we have as parents, we may easily feel overwhelmed and tired—especially with all the challenges and unknowns we face today with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Yet Lent can be a time for our renewal.  Let’s not forget how Jesus can be a source of strength and a loving comfort to us, and how we can follow his example to spread that love and be a positive example for our children. 

How true are Jesus’ words, which invite those who are tired and weary to come to Him to find rest! His arms outstretched on the cross show that no one is excluded from his love and his mercy, not even the greatest sinner: no one! -Pope Francis

Heavenly Father, your son’s death on the cross stands as a testament to your endless love and care for all of us. No one who seeks you out is excluded from your love, no matter what we have done. No one is cut off from your mercy, no matter how great our suffering. Give me the courage, Lord, to always look to Christ crucified as the promise of mercy for me. In this Lenten season, give me the confidence to trust that your love for me will never die. AMEN.

RE-REGISTRATION FOR 2021-2022

Last week, the 2021-2022 tuition rates and YELLOW re-registration forms were distributed.  Please return the completed re-registration form by March 31, in order to help us plan for the upcoming school year.  The per-student re-registration fee is due by April 15.

If you did not receive a hard copy of the re-registration form and the tuition update letter, they were also posted on Class Dojo on March 2.  Please call the office if you have any questions!

NEXT WEEK! - PARENT-TEACHER ZOOM CONFERENCES

This Friday, March 5, is the end of Trimester 2.  As the third (and last) trimester of the school year begins next week, teachers are scheduling Parent-Teacher Zoom conferences for Tuesday, March 9; Wednesday, March 10; and Thursday, March 11.  Parent-Teacher conferences are mandatory for each student, as this is an important time for conversations regarding students’ progress.

Conference sign-ups have been posted on Class Dojo.  Please sign up for a conference time if you haven’t done so already, and contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.  Thank you for your cooperation! 

**In order to accommodate more Parent-Teacher Conference appointment times, Tuesday, March 9; Wednesday, March 10; and Thursday, March 11 are all MINIMUM DAYS with early dismissal times!  (12:15/12:30/12:40 dismissals—according to grade level)

New Applications:  The BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year are available online on www.basicfund.org. Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline is March 31, 2021

Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families. The BASIC Fund has emailed families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage. Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline is March 31, 2021.

The application process for the Archdiocese Family Grant for the 2021-2022 school year has now begun.  Please go on to mytads.com to begin the application process. QUE PASA 2/24/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        As parents, we strive to be role models of open hearts and open minds for our children.  At school—whether in person or on Zoom—we encourage each other to develop a growth mindset and live our St. Peter’s School KEYS so that we can open our hearts and minds.  Lent pushes us to dig out of our souls all the things that have clogged our hearts, the little sins that we clench in our fists, keeping us from opening our hands, hearts, and minds freely. God is offering to not only lift the burden from our shoulders, but also to help in rebalancing our load in the future. Tossing those small bad habits, pushing aside bitterness and resentment so that we might love God with our whole heart, and with all our strength.  Especially as we continue living through the challenges of the pandemic, we should make time to turn to God in prayer and for strength.

What is weighing you down? How might you prayerfully sort through what takes up room in your heart and mind? What habits and grudges can be cleared out, left behind?

God, take away what clutters our hearts, feed us with your Word, so that we might have the strength and freedom to love you with all our hearts, all our souls, all our being.

WEEKLY SCHOOL MASS

Yesterday, we were not able to celebrate virtual school mass because another service was planned in Church.

QUE PASA 2/17/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        Today, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning Lent. This is a special liturgical season when we take time to pray, reflect, repent, and renew so that we can grow closer to God as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Each week I’d like to offer a reflection (from Daily Reflections for Lent: Not By Bread Alone) as we journey through Lent with each other and with our children:  

“Ash Wednesday is marked with a somber sign of our faith.  The cross on our forehead is meant to leave a lasting imprint deep within, like a spiritual tattoo that will linger long after we complete the 40-day course.  The sacrifices and prayers of the season help us clear a path, but we can’t stop there, not if we want to experience real transformation. God wants nothing less than our hearts broken open so that he might find a resting place within and make us whole. Yes, the exterior practices are important, but what matters most is what happens unseen within our hearts and souls.” 

Heavenly Father, guide us in the right ways as we begin our Lenten journey. Give us the courage to allow ourselves to be transformed by your love. Help us to use our Lenten sacrifices to dig deeper into our spiritual center and carve out a space for you alone.  AMEN.

Today, we began the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday school mass.  All school community members participated virtually.

       This coming weekend, we will celebrate Presidents’ Day with a 4-day school break.  During this holiday, let us remember our nation’s leaders, service men and women, and even ourselves as Christian citizens, especially as we work to strengthen our country during these difficult times and continue to move forward during this pandemic.  Together, let us offer this prayer (from unlockingthebible.org):

Dear God,

Thank you for your common grace and every good gift.  We know freedom, industry, jobs, healthcare, and a stable economy come at no small cost. Thank you for the men and women who’ve sacrificed to serve our Presidents and country by protecting and leading us. Thank you for making your “sun rise on the evil and on the good, and for sending rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). You show your goodness and kindness through these common, good gifts.

VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION

Since Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day at school on Thursday, February 11, before our long weekend begins.  Students may bring cards or non-food items to share, such as pencils or stickers.  However, as a COVID-19 safety precaution, NO FOOD ITEMS may be shared for Valentine’s Day.  Thank you for your understanding.

PRESIDENTS’ DAY BREAK

This Friday (February 12) and Monday (February 15), are school holidays for the Presidents’ Day break.  School will be closed and there will be no Zooms for Distance Learning.  School will resume on Tuesday, February 16 with the regular schedule.

We continue to practice infection mitigation protocols at school, and if your child is not feeling well, please do not send him/her to school unless cleared to do so.  Symptoms to watch for include:

·       Loss of taste or smell.  Children may complain that food “tastes bad” or “tastes funny”

·       Congested or runny nose

·       Sore throat

·       Nausea or vomiting

New Applications:  Starting January 15, the BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year will be available online on www.basicfund.org.  Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline is March 31, 2021

Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families.  In February, BASIC Fund will email families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage. Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline is March 31, 2021.

 

ARCHDIOCESE ELEMENTARY FAMILY GRANT

The application process for the Archdiocese Family Grant for the 2021-2022 school year has now begun.  Please go on to mytads.com to begin the application process. If you do not have ready your 2020 income tax or financial information. be sure you submit your 2019 income tax information or 2019 income information (Calworks, social security, food stamps, etc.).  You should upload or fax to Tads your 2020 income tax or 2020 financial information before the deadline. Please be sure you have completed the total Tads process by the Archdiocese deadline—April 15, 2021.

100th DAY OF SCHOOL

This Friday, we celebrate our 100th day of school! At school or on Zoom, students are invited to dress like they are 100 years old—to show that we are 100 days smarter and older!

On January 24, a notification was sent out notifying parents that all Middle School students will be distance learning through February 5, due to a staffing shortage.  Please note that the decision to distance learn for middle schoolers is not a result of COVID-19 exposure at school; there has been no COVID-19 exposure in the middle school grades.  

Because we are short-staffed in the middle school, along with a shortage of substitute teachers, we ask that our middle schoolers participate in distance learning through February 5.

       Happy Catholic Schools Week!  This week, we’ve been taking the time to reflect on Catholic education and all the ways that we learn to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite here at St. Peter’s School. Almighty Father,

You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people.  As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education.  As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.  Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools.  Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today.  Thank you for the parents who have given support to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives.  Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

TRIMESTER 2 PROGRESS REPORTS

Today, your child’s teacher will send home progress reports.  Students at school will be given paper copies, and parents of distance learners will receive digital progress reports on Class Dojo or email.  Please sign and return the paper copies, or reply to your child’s teacher once you have viewed the digital progress report.

Dear Parents,

     Today is the presidential inauguration—marking yet another new beginning for 2021.  While we welcome new leadership into the White House, let us remember our own St. Peter’s School Core Values to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite, and do our best to live out these values to have open hearts and open minds.

     The Prayer of St. Francis can help us find the strength to take the action to work for peace and unity, especially as our country may feel broken from the pandemic and recent violent events at the Capitol.  So I ask that you take a few minutes to pray so that we can ACT as instruments of peace.

On January 16, a notification was emailed to parents regarding a positive COVID-19 case at school.  We are following the directions of the San Francisco Department of Public Health Department. The affected class is currently in quarantine, but other classes are safe to continue with in-person learning.

LIFETOUCH SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS

TOMORROW -- Thursday, January 21 is School Picture Day for students in grades K-5 who are currently participating in in-person instruction and for Middle School Cohort A students.

Picture day for Distance Learning students and Middle School Cohort B students will take place on Wednesday, February 24.  For this day, a schedule will be provided for distance learning students to arrive for their picture day time slot.

For picture days, students must be in COMPLETE UNIFORM, including the green uniform sweatshirt, white polo, and uniform skirt or navy pants.  (8th graders may wear their black 8th grade sweatshirt.)

Lifetouch provided these safety procedures that have been implemented due to COVID-19:

- Photographers will have markers on the floor spaced 6 feet apart for students to stand on when waiting in line.

- Grooming stations will be set up with tissues, wipes, hand sanitizer and combs for students to use. The station will also have signs with directions for use and disposal.                                 

- There will be a bar setup near the cameras where students can hang their mask while they take their picture. This bar will be sanitized after each student.          

- Photographers will sanitize their stations at specific intervals and as needed throughout the day.                                   

- Photographers are required to wear masks.

BASIC FUND APPLICATIONS

New Applications:  Starting January 15, the BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year will be available online on www.basicfund.org.  Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline is March 31, 2021

Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families.  In February,  BASIC Fund will email families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage.

Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline is March 31, 2021.

If you do not have ready your 2020 income tax or financial information. be sure you submit your 2019  income tax information or 2019 income information (Calworks, social security, food stamps, etc.).  You should upload or fax to Tads your 2020 income tax or 2020 financial information before the deadline. QUE PASA 1/13/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       Next Monday, we look forward to celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as we have a school holiday in his honor, and as our 8th graders will prepare and share a virtual prayer service for the school.  He is a role model for us and our students as we discuss how others should be treated with dignity and love.  We can reflect on how Dr. King is an example of thinking critically and taking action for social justice.  It’s a perfect opportunity to apply our growth mindset along with the children, and to take action through service and prayer.

        Dr. King’s words and service remind me of our school’s core values to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite; and he can be a model to live out our KEYS:

Knowledge feeds growth.

Every Accomplishment needs courage.

You are love.

Service Unites.

       At the same time, we pray for PEACE in our country.  I am reminded of Jesus’ words: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you.” Like Jesus and Dr. King, let us remember to be examples of respect and peace for our children.

NO SCHOOL JAN. 15 & 18

This Friday, January 15, all teachers are attending an online professional development session, so there is no school for students.

There is also no school on the following Monday—January 18—in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  School will resume with a regular schedule on Tuesday, January 19.

 

LIFETOUCH SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS

Thursday, January 21 is School Picture Day for students in grades K-5 who are currently participating in in-person instruction and for Middle School Cohort A students.

Picture day for Distance Learning students and Middle School Cohort B students will take place on Wednesday, February 24.  For this day, a schedule will be provided for distance learning students to arrive for their picture day time slot.

For picture days, students must be in COMPLETE UNIFORM, including the green uniform sweatshirt, white polo, and uniform skirt or navy pants.  (8th graders may wear their black 8th grade sweatshirt.)

 

Lifetouch provided these safety procedures that have been implemented due to COVID-19:

- Photographers will have markers on the floor spaced 6 feet apart for students to stand on when waiting in line.

- Grooming stations will be set up with tissues, wipes, hand sanitizer and combs for students to use. The station will also have signs with directions for use and disposal.                                 

- There will be a bar setup near the cameras where students can hang their mask while they take their picture. This bar will be sanitized after each student.          

- Photographers will sanitize their stations at specific intervals and as needed throughout the day.                                   

- Photographers are required to wear masks. 

 

 

GRAY “AZTECS” SWEATS

A new shipment of the gray “AZTECS” sweats have arrived.  The hoodies, sweatpants, and t-shirts are available in youth and adult sizes, but quantities are limited.  The prices are below:

Hoodies - $30 each

Sweatpants - $25 each

T-shirts - $10 each

At school, gray AZTECS sweats may be worn on Fridays in lieu of the regular school uniform. Parents are welcome to wear the AZTECS sweats, too!  If you’d like to purchase any of these items, please call the school office at 415-647-8662 to place an order and make a payment.

COUNTY HEALTH ORDER AND TRAVEL ADVISORY

In San Francisco County, we follow the Stay Safer at Home Health Order.  Schools that are already open for in-person instruction are allowed to remain open.  Therefore, St. Peter’s School will continue to offer in-person instruction in the school building.  Families may still choose the distance learning option.

QUE PASA 1/6/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       Happy New Year!!!  I pray that everyone safely enjoyed Christmas and new year celebrations filled with lots of love and laughter, even if they weren’t like our usual celebrations of years past.  No doubt that 2020 presented us with many unexpected challenges.  However, those challenges brought about new lessons about finding happiness in simpler things, connecting with loved ones in new ways, learning how to use different tools in technology, and becoming more resourceful.  We will still feel the effects of 2020 in the months ahead, but our spirits will remain resilient and hopeful for brighter days in 2021!

Together as a school family, let us start 2021 with a prayer:

Lord, You make all things new.

You bring hope alive in our hearts 

And cause our Spirits to be born again.

Thank you for this new year,

For all the potential it holds.

Come and kindle in us a mighty flame

So that in our time, many will see the wonders of God

FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY

Today—January 6—is The Feast of Epiphany, which commemorates the Magi who followed a star to find the baby Jesus. The Feast of Epiphany blessing asks that we might find the Lord when our pilgrimage is ended. It reminds us that we should be looking for God, and finding Him, all along the way!  In honor of the fest of the Epiphany, we pray that all will be treated with dignity and love, and that those who come there will find, as did the magi on their journey, Jesus Christ.

QUE PASA 12/16/2020 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       Although we may have felt like this time would not arrive... we’ve made it to our last week of school in 2020! I am grateful for our school community and all that we have accomplished amidst the many challenges of the pandemic.  We continue to reflect during this Advent season and pray for strength as the year comes to a conclusion, and as we enter a new year with hope.

RETURNING TO THE SCHOOL BUILDING IN JANUARY

For those students who are participating in in-person instruction, there is a survey from the Archdiocese of San Francisco Department of Catholic Schools that must be completed before returning to the school building in January.  

On this survey, if any answers are “Yes”—including to COVID-19 symptoms, contact with a current positive COVID-19 case, or out-of-state/out-of-country traveling over the Christmas vacation--then your child must participate in distance learning until cleared to return to the school building.

TUITION POLICY

All student tuition accounts must be up to date and paid through December 2020 in order for your child to return to class on January 4, 2021. If your tuition is not up-to-date before leaving for Christmas vacation, your child will not be able to return to class on Monday, January 4, 2021.  Tuition payments must be made by Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

QUE PASA 12/9/2020 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       This week, we celebrate two feasts of Mary: the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  It’s very appropriate that we celebrate Mary during the season of Advent as we prepare for the coming of Jesus, because without Mary, and without her faith, strength, and love, we wouldn’t have Jesus.  And after all, Jesus is the reason for the season.

      Pope Francis wrote an Advent reflection a few years ago that reminds us of how Mary is a role model for us today.  Mary is our sign of FAITH and HOPE, especially during these very challenging times.  As Pope Francis describes, Mary is a loving mother who inspires us all to put God first in our lives.  Here’s a part of what Pope Francis wrote:

ST. PETER’S VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE

Our annual food drive is off to a strong start!  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we’re not collecting food using the usual collection barrels, but we continue to collect monetary donations in the classrooms and on the donation website-- https://us-p2p.e-activist.com/1803/general/95028/st.-peters-school

There are many other ways that we are showing love during Advent—like through prayer and other good deeds.  Our food drive is just one way of living out our KEYS as we await the birth of Jesus.  We are really reaching for that $1,000 school goal!  Thank you for your generosity and for being models of LOVE, SERVICE, and UNITY at home and at school!

TUITION POLICY

All student tuition accounts must be up to date and paid through December 2020 in order for your child to return to class on January 4, 2021. If your tuition is not up-to-date before leaving for Christmas vacation, your child will not be able to return to class on Monday, January 4, 2021.  Tuition payments must be made by Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

COUNTY HEALTH ORDER

In San Francisco County, the Stay Safer at Home Health Order has been updated, making changes for organizations such as businesses and restaurants.  Schools that are already open for in-person instruction are allowed to remain open.  Therefore, St. Peter’s School will continue to offer in-person instruction in the school building.  Families may still choose the distance learning option.

QUE PASA 12/2/2020 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

      December is here--the last month of 2020!  There’s no doubt that 2020 has been a year like no other, with all the different effects of COVID-19, sheltering-in-place, and distance learning for our school work.  It’s almost hard to believe that this year is finally coming to a conclusion.

       Even though we’re near the end of the year, this past Sunday marked the beginning of a new liturgical year and the beginning of a church season—ADVENT.  Advent is a time of preparation for Jesus’ birth.   

      The teachers and I will be teaching the students about Advent, and how our preparations could include special acts—such as saying extra prayers, reading the bible, attending more virtual Mass celebrations, or doing extra good deeds—because doing those special acts will make more room in our hearts for Jesus.  Some classes are following an Advent calendar or constructing Advent wreaths, yet some classes might also be planning special projects to help those in need.  Whatever your child and your family do during Advent, remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.  The children have heard this at school, but continue this lesson at home.  Let’s all be examples of open hearts and open minds, and know that we wouldn’t be celebrating if it wasn’t for our savior, Jesus Christ.

ST. PETER’S VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE

It’s time for our annual food drive!  We have a tradition of amazing generosity each year, where students donate thousands of pounds of food to the SF/Marin Food Bank.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the SF/Marin Food Bank has temporarily halted the use of collection barrels that we have used in the past. Instead, St. Peter’s School will be hosting a virtual food drive. Please visit our school’s food drive page here:

Families can donate directly through the website, or students can bring cash to their homeroom teachers, and it will be collected each day.

Our school's overall goal is $1,000 and the website will be open until the New Year.  This is just one of many ways that we can live our KEYS to LOVE, SERVE, and UNITE during the Advent season!   

REPORT CARDS

We are now in Trimester 2 of our school year. This past Monday, November 30, report cards were sent home.  In-person students received hard (paper) copies of the report cards, and parents of distance learning students were sent a digital form of the report card via Class Dojo or email. 

Paper copies are to be signed by a parent and returned by Friday, December 4.  For parents of Distance Learners, please respond to your child’s teacher to ensure that you have received and viewed the report card.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

COVID-19 NOTIFICATION

On Wednesday, November 25, a notification was emailed to all parents regarding a positive COVID-19 case at school, in the 2nd grade. The San Francisco Department of Public Health is working with us to keep the school safe.  The entire 2nd grade class cohort and any close contacts with the positive case are currently under quarantine and will NOT attend in-person school until they are cleared to do so.  

 

On Monday, November 30, another notification was sent home regarding a positive COVID-10 case in the 4th grade.  SFDPH assessed that since the infection date of this positive case was November 26 (during the Thanksgiving break while no students were together in school), there has been NO exposure to the class or to other individuals in the school.  In this case, students may continue to participate in in-person instruction.

Dear Parents,

       As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, I want to say Thank You for being part of the St. Peter’s School family!  I am proud to be part of our community as we continue to work through our challenges—both at home and in the school building—to teach our children to live and celebrate our core values to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite.  I am grateful for your support towards this goal, especially during these uncertain times.

       While we are thankful for all our blessings—like our families, our friends, and our homes, to name a few—let us also remember to pray for those who are in need, and for all who endure the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Together, let us offer this prayer (written by “Anonymous”):

Our school building is reopen for in-person instruction for all grade levels.  The first cohort (Cohort A) of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders has begun in-person instruction this week.  Cohort B of 6th, 7th and 8th graders will begin on Monday, November 30.  When cohorts are not in the school building, they will participate in distance learning at home.  Middle Schoolers will rotate weekly between distance learning and in-person instruction.

 

Families who have chosen the Distance Learning option and have notified the school office will continue with full Distance Learning.

Dear Parents,

      This Friday marks the end of our first Trimester, and the students have grown in many ways!  The teachers and I value our partnership with you—especially as we adapt new teaching and learning platforms, and adjust to new protocols at school.  We hope to continue to work together to help all students grow and meet their goals, whether at home or at school.  As the first Trimester comes to a close, and because these are an important part of our school culture, I am re-sharing the St. Peter’s Schoolwide Learning Expectations, also known as “SLEs.”  These expectations can extend into the home to help students live out our CORE VALUES to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite!

SCHOOL REOPENING

Our school building is reopen for in-person instruction, for Kindergarten through 5th grade students.  The first cohort (Cohort A) of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will begin in-person instruction on Monday, November 23.  Cohort B of 6th, 7th and 8th graders will begin on Monday, November 30.  When cohorts are not in the school building, they will participate in distance learning at home.  Middle Schoolers will rotate weekly between distance learning and in-person instruction.

Families who have chosen the Distance Learning option and have notified the school office will continue with full Distance Learning.

Middle School parents – please check your Class Dojo messages from your child’s homeroom teacher to see what cohort (A or B) to which your child has been assigned.

As we prepare for in-person instruction at school, we also need to UNITE and prepare our school uniforms!

If you’d like to purchase school uniform items (such as a uniform skirt or jumper) from Ruth’s Children’s Shoppe, please call Ruth’s to make an appointment: 415-468-4399 or 415-238-6356.

If you need to purchase a school uniform sweatshirt ($25), call the office at 415-647-8662 so we can prepare the sweatshirt.  Please pick up the sweatshirt before your child returns to school.

Navy Blue khakis and plain white polo shirts may be purchased at stores such as Target, WalMart, and Old Navy.

Also--don’t forget that uniform shoes are solid black or solid white tennis shoes/sneakers.  (No boots.)

Younger students may bring in their payment in an envelope with their name and lunch order, and the teacher will collect that envelope.

Parents may also order lunches by 8:30 in the morning and pay via Venmo on our LUNCH ACCOUNT -- @StPeters-Lunch -- and write the student’s name and lunch order in the comments section.

Tuition Payment Agreements (printed on bright green paper) were sent home in the mail.  Please be sure to complete this form and send it back to school in the postage-paid envelope provided, as soon as possible.  If you did not receive this form in the mail, please contact the school office.

Dear Parents,

       Happy Veterans’ Day!  Let us remember our veterans who have given their lives and their lifetimes to serving our country at home and abroad, so that people may enjoy their freedom.  Here at school, we recognize our very own Mr. Frank Gonzalez, an army veteran, and all of your loved ones who are veterans as well.  Although our country and the world have a long way to go so that all are treated with equal respect and freedoms, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the struggle and commitment of our veterans.  God bless our veterans and their families!

       At the same time, since we have learned the results of the presidential election, let us also pray for peace in our country, and that our leaders will be models of respect and understanding for those that they serve.  

Let us offer this prayer in thanksgiving to our Veterans and our government leaders:

QUE PASA 11/4/2020 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       Over the weekend and on Monday, we celebrated special days in the Church: All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. On the Feast of All Saints, a holy day of obligation, we honor those who have lived lives faithful to God.  On the Feast of All Souls, we remember and pray for our loved ones who have passed away, and honor them through prayer, or even by making special altars in their memory.  

       As we honor the Saints, let us remember how they lived out the Beatitudes—Jesus’ teachings on how to live as a Christian and to find true happiness.  The Beatitudes can help us to reflect on how to be role models for our children.  We can lead our children by example and live out our faith, showing kindness, love, and respect!

      The Beatitudes  (Matthew 5:3-10)

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
