QUE PASA 4/30/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       I hope you had a blessed Easter with your family! We are now in the EASTER SEASON, but what does living the spirit of the Easter season mean? Here is an Easter season reflection from “Be Fearless, Be Joyful, Be Renewed: Living the Spirit of Easter” (www.loyolapress.com) that could help us to sustain our renewed Easter hope.

Live With Joy.  The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus teach us that suffering is transformed through faith in the Risen Christ. With this faith, we are able to hold on to an enduring sense of joy even in the midst of the sadness we experience from the loss of a loved one, a failure to achieve an important goal, or a setback during recovery from an illness.

Live Without Fear.  The Resurrection teaches us that God can overcome anything, even death. When the Risen Christ appears to the women at the tomb and later to his disciples, his first words are “Do not be afraid!” (Mt 28:5). These words speak to our hearts, helping us cope with fear. Our faith allows us to trust that God can overcome our most serious problems.

Live with New Eyes. Just as the return of world is new, the resurrection of Jesus makes “all things new” (Rev 21:5). The Easter spirit is a spirit of renewal that enables us to show up at work with a positive attitude, to renew relationships that have been taken for granted, and to express appreciation and affection to those closest to us. It means to see the world through new eyes—God’s eyes!

The Resurrection reminds us to stay hopeful.  Let’s keep our hearts and minds open to live our core values this Easter season!

The oldest siblings in each family in grades K-7 were sent home with a 2025-2026 school re-registration form along with the letter outlining the registration fees and tuition rates for the 2025-2026 school year.  Re-registration forms and registration payments are due by April 30.

CONFIRMATION MASS
Our 8th graders will be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral (1111 Gough Street in San Francisco).  You are welcome to join them in this special celebration!

MESSAGE FROM BVCC

For this school year, the last day of BVCC after-school services is on Friday, May 30.  There will be no BVCC after-school services from June 2-12.  Please plan accordingly and be sure that your child is picked up at the school dismissal time since there will be no after-school programming from June 2-12.

Custom Uniforms for 7th and 8th Graders:  For the Fall 2025 season, we will be ordering custom uniforms with your child’s last name on the back. Please be aware that all non-customized uniforms must be returned before we can place their order. This includes any jerseys that were previously issued.

QUE PASA 4/16/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       Throughout Lent, the students have been learning and acting upon different ways that they can grow closer to God.  Now that we find ourselves in the middle of HOLY WEEK, I hope you find that your journey through Lent has brought you and your family closer to God, and that together, we can keep our faith strong and share the love that God the Father has shown us.  Remember Jesus’ gift of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us on Good Friday so that our sins could be forgiven. Together, take time to say a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s love as we await Jesus’ resurrection on Easter. 

We pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of everlasting life brought about by the resurrection of your son from the dead! This dark night is enlightened by a glimpse of the greatest mystery.  Our minds could never have conceived how you would save us, Lord, nor can we ever fully understand the depths of your love in choosing to do so.  We thank you for all that you have done for us throughout Lent. Now, throughout Easter, grant us the fullness of life.  AMEN.

CALENDAR REMINDERS

- Wednesday, April 16, is a usual Minimum Day–12:30 Dismissal.  However, the school office will close at 1:30 PM.

- Students and teachers will be on Easter vacation from Thursday, April 17 through Friday, April 25. 

School will resume on Monday, April 28 with a MINIMUM DAY (7:55 AM - 12:30 PM) schedule.  BVCC will be open for students who are registered for BVCC for Mondays.  All other students should be picked up or on their way home at the 12:30 dismissal time on Monday, April 28.

AZTEC TREK CHAMPIONS

We had a great time last Friday during our Aztec Trek Walk-a-Thon and Games!  Congratulations to our AZTEC TREK CLASS CHAMPIONS–.6th Grade!

Here are our top 3 individual fundraisers, who are took home their Target Gift Card prizes:

- TOP FUNDRAISER: Ella in 8th grade raised $900

- 2nd Place: Melissa in 5th grade raised $800

- 3rd Place:  Emiliano in 5th grade raised $755

We also had various raffle prize winners who won free dress passes, homework passes, gift cards, and Easter baskets!

QUE PASA 4/9/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       As we come closer to the conclusion of this Lenten season, I hope that you and your family have found Lent as a time for renewal.  With Holy Week approaching next week, beginning with Palm Sunday this Sunday, let’s not forget how Jesus can be a source of strength and a loving comfort to us, and how we can follow his example to spread that love and be a positive example for our children. 

How true are Jesus’ words, which invite those who are tired and weary to come to Him to find rest! His arms outstretched on the cross show that no one is excluded from his love and his mercy, not even the greatest sinner: no one!

Heavenly Father, your son’s death on the cross stands as a testament to your endless love and care for all of us. No one who seeks you out is excluded from your love, no matter what we have done. No one is cut off from your mercy, no matter how great our suffering. Give me the courage, Lord, to always look to Christ crucified as the promise of mercy for me. In this Lenten season, give me the confidence to trust that your love for me will never die. AMEN.

AZTEC TREK GAME DAY

The Aztec Trek fundraising collection envelope (mandatory minimum $125) is now past due.  If you have not yet turned in this envelope, please do so as soon as possible!

The Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and game day will take place THIS FRIDAY, April 11.  Each child was sent home with a field trip permission form for the walk-a-thon, as we will be walking to and from Precita Park.  Please sign and return this form if you have not already done so.

This Friday, students can earn Aztec Trek points by wearing their assigned class color with their school uniform or gray AZTECS sweats.

Congratulations to our March Students of the Month!

Kindergarten - Dylan Diaz is a bright, shining light in our class. He is an extremely kind, sweet, and intelligent boy who sets a positive example for all of his classmates. He is always one of the first to comfort another student if they are upset and cares very deeply about others. He shows the St. Peter’s values of LOVE and UNITE with his constant support of his classmates on their achievements and awards. Dylan has GROWN immensely in his English level, especially due to the attention he pays in class and the hours he puts into Lexia every week. He ACCOMPLISHes every day with his dedication to schoolwork and projects. He SERVEs by going above and beyond to keep the classroom a clean, safe place to play and learn. THANK YOU, Dylan, for being such an exemplary student and embodying our St. Peters values beautifully!

1st Grade - Arrietty Mitchell is full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity. She has grown so much as a reader and has grown in her ability to show us what she knows! She's always ready with a hug and is excited to share her experiences to help others. Great job showing us the St. Peter's core value of GROW, Arrietty!

2nd Grade - Kehlani Davila Flores is a great example of the St. Peter's core value of LOVE. She cares a lot for other people and goes out of her way to cheer them up when they are having a hard time.  She is also respectful and kind towards adults. In class, she is a hard worker and does her best. Great job, Kehlani!

3rd Grade - Ariana Pineda Martinez has worked  hard to grow and accomplish each day in class. She has really improved recently with her attendance and earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath.  Along with her hard work, she is a kind and loyal friend.  Keep up the amazing work, Ariana! You are a star.

4th Grade - Ethan Siliezar Lopes works really hard to grow academically in class each day. He accomplishes in class by earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath and is inching closer to completing Lexia Core5 by the end of the school year. Along with being a great student, he is also a kind and helpful friend in class.  Keep up the amazing work, Ethan! You are a star.

5th Grade - Nathan Morales-Romero has been showing a lot of leadership in the classroom. He is always contributing to the class discussion and volunteering to do various classroom jobs. He leads by example and is actively in charge of his learning. His work is always complete and done with thought and care. We are proud of his hard work and dedication especially towards ACCOMPLISH and UNITE. Keep up the consistent and meaningful effort, Nathan!

6th Grade - Minerva Chamul-Lopez arrives at school on time, respects others' space, and actively participates in class.  She helps her classmates, and submits her work promptly. She is responsible and ensures her tasks are completed on time.  Keep up the great work, Minerva!

7th Grade - Karla Chavez consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude.  Karla exemplifies the values of perseverance and teamwork. This well-deserved recognition reflects not only academic achievement but also the kindness, respect, and leadership qualities she shows every day. Way to grow, accomplish, love, serve and unite in 7th grade, Karla!

8th Grade - Alexander Cabrera demonstrates growth and accomplishment by striving to better himself, both in and outside the classroom. He constantly lends a helping hand to those around him, his peers, teachers and staff, not because he has to, but because he genuinely wants to. Alex is also embracing new experiences with an open heart and open mind, by tackling his 8th grade year with enthusiasm and confidence. Way to go Alex!  Keep up the great work!

QUE PASA 4/2/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       Happy April!  We continue in this season of Lent, at the same time that we are in the season of Spring–another season of renewal.  Let us be grateful for this season of reflection and growth, and offer this prayer together:

Heavenly Father, 

As we enter this month of April, we thank you for the beauty of Spring, the renewal of life, and the promise of new beginnings. We ask for your guidance and wisdom as we navigate through this month and the remainder of the Lenten season, helping us to see your hand in every moment and to trust in your plan. 

Lord, we pray for strength and courage to face any challenges that may come our way, and for the ability to be a source of light and love to those around us. May we be reminded of your love and grace in the gentle rains and the warming sun. 

We ask for your blessings upon our families, friends, and communities, and for peace and healing in a world that often needs it. May we be a reflection of your goodness in all that we do, and may our hearts be filled with joy and our minds with clarity, so we may walk in your ways.  AMEN.

AZTEC TREK UPDATE

The Aztec Trek fundraising collection envelope (mandatory minimum $125) is now past due.  If you have not yet turned in this envelope, please do so as soon as possible!

The Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and game day will take place on Friday, April 11.  Each child was sent home with a field trip permission form for the walk-a-thon, as we will be walking to and from Precita Park.  Please sign and return this form by April 9.

Currently, here are the class standings:

1st place - 6th grade

2nd place - Kindergarten

3rd place - 5th grade

However, the standings can still change as classes earn more points on our game day.  Stay tuned to see who will be named the 2025 Aztec Trek Champion!  GO AZTECS!

Last week, the oldest siblings in each family in grades K-7 were sent home with a 2025-2026 school re-registration form along with the letter outlining the registration fees and tuition rates for the 2025-2026 school year.  Re-registration forms and registration payments are due by April 30.

This week-long summer camp experience at CYO Camp in Occidental, CA normally costs $940, but because of generous camp scholarships for St. Peter’s students, the cost goes down significantly!

- If a family meets the income eligibility guidelines then the cost of camp is $150, or $210 with round trip bus transportation.

- If a family does not meet the income eligibility guidelines then the cost of camp is $400, or $460 with round trip bus transportation.

We are now accepting sign-ups for the Fall 2025 boys soccer and girls volleyball season! If your child is entering 3rd - 8th grade in the upcoming school year and is interested in playing, please note the following important details:

Sign-Up Deadline:  All sign-ups must be submitted by Friday, May 9th. If you do not sign up your child, they will not be able to participate in the upcoming season.

Custom Uniforms for 7th and 8th Graders:  For the Fall 2025 season, we will be ordering custom uniforms with your child’s last name on the back. Please be aware that all non-customized uniforms must be returned before we can place their order. This includes any jerseys that were previously issued.

QUE PASA 3/26/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       We are halfway through the season of Lent, and the time of Jesus’ death and resurrection are drawing near.  How are you and your family growing closer to God? Reflect on what makes you unwell, not necessarily physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually. What unhealthy thing takes up the space in your heart, mind, and soul that belongs to God?  As the Psalm below says, let us remember that God is merciful and always present, especially in our times of need.

The LORD is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger and of great kindness.

The LORD is good to all

and compassionate toward all his works.

The LORD is faithful in all his words

and holy in all his works.

The LORD lifts up all who are falling

and raises up all who are bowed down.

The LORD is just in all his ways

CALENDAR REMINDERS

Monday, March 31 is a Minimum Day – 12:00 NOON dismissal) while teachers attend an Archdiocesan catechetical in-service.  BVCC will be open for students who are registered for Mondays.  All other students should be picked up or on their way home at the 12:00 NOON dismissal time. 

LENTEN RECONCILIATION

During the season of Lent, students in grades 2-8 will take part in Lenten Reconciliation services as part of their Lenten preparation and reflection.  Here are the remaining Lenten Reconciliation services:

Thank you to all who have turned in their minimum $125 collection for our mandatory school fundraiser, the Aztec Trek!  

The due date to turn in the collection envelope for prizes was March 19.  However, if you have not yet submitted your mandatory minimum collection of $125, that is still due to the school office as soon as possible.

MESSAGE FROM THE BASIC FUND

The BASIC Fund’s new and renewal applications for the 2025-2026 School Year are now open and available on the website https://basicfund.org/how-to-apply/. Families can submit their 2023 Tax Return along with their application, but we highly encourage families to submit their 2024 Tax Return as they won’t be required to update on next year’s renewal application. Current BASIC Fund families wanting to apply for a new sibling must fill out an application through the Existing Family Application page on our website. Families will need to input their email and BASIC Fund family account number (a separate email has been sent to families with their family account) to access their application. If the family does not know their BASIC Fund family account number, they need to follow the instructions noted to have their account number emailed to them. The New and Renewal Application deadline is March 28, 2025.

QUE PASA 3/19/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       Thank you for your time and consideration as you took time to meet with your child’s teacher last week during Parent-Teacher Conferences.  With all the different responsibilities we have as parents, we may easily feel overwhelmed and tired.  Yet Lent can be a time for our renewal.  Let’s not forget how Jesus can be a source of strength and a loving comfort to us, and how we can follow his example to spread that love and be a positive example for our children. 

How true are Jesus’ words, which invite those who are tired and weary to come to Him to find rest! His arms outstretched on the cross show that no one is excluded from his love and his mercy, not even the greatest sinner: no one! --Pope Francis

Heavenly Father, your son’s death on the cross stands as a testament to your endless love and care for all of us. No one who seeks you out is excluded from your love, no matter what we have done. No one is cut off from your mercy, no matter how great our suffering. Give me the courage, Lord, to always look to Christ crucified as the promise of mercy for me. In this Lenten season, give me the confidence to trust that your love for me will never die. AMEN.

REPORT CARDS

Trimester 2 report cards were sent home with students last week.  Report cards should be signed and returned to your child’s teacher if it hasn’t been already.  Thank you for your cooperation.

There is NO SCHOOL for students this Friday, March 21 while all teachers attend a Professional Development session.  Our teachers will be working on the school report for a school accreditation visit which will occur in the upcoming school year.

QUE PASA 3/12/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       This week, our Parent-Teacher Conferences continue as we aim to strengthen the home-school partnership.  As parents, we strive to be role models of open hearts and open minds for our children; and during Lent we can reflect and recommit to this task.  At school, we encourage each other to develop a growth mindset and live our St. Peter’s School KEYS so that we can open our hearts and minds.  Lent pushes us to dig out of our souls all the things that have clogged our hearts, the little sins that we clench in our fists, keeping us from opening our hands, hearts, and minds freely. God is offering to not only lift the burden from our shoulders, but also to help in rebalancing our load in the future. Tossing those small bad habits, pushing aside bitterness and resentment so that we might love God with our whole heart, and with all our strength.  Now and beyond Lent, we should make time to turn to God in prayer and for strength.

What is weighing you down? How might you prayerfully sort through what takes up room in your heart and mind? What habits and grudges can be cleared out, left behind?

God, take away what clutters our hearts, feed us with your Word, so that we might have the strength and freedom to love you with all our hearts, all our souls, all our being.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES and REPORT CARDS

March 7 marked the end of Trimester 2; therefore it is time for teachers to share report cards with parents and students.  Report cards will be discussed at the mandatory Parent-Teacher Conferences held from March 11-13 on Zoom.  (March 11-13 are all Minimum Days–12:30 Dismissal.)

At this time, all parents should have signed up for a conference on the sign-up sheet shared on Class Dojo.  These conferences are important as we continue to support student growth and learning.   If you are unable to keep your appointment, please message your child’s teacher directly or call the school office to reschedule.

Trimester 2 report cards should be signed and returned to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, March 18.

Applications for archdiocesan financial aid for 2025-2026 year are now open via myTads.com.

Applications should be submitted by. April 15, 2025. To be considered for financial aid, one must live in one of the following counties: San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin county.

This week-long summer camp experience at CYO Camp in Occidental, CA normally costs $940, but because of generous camp scholarships for St. Peter’s students, the cost goes down significantly!

- If a family meets the income eligibility guidelines then the cost of camp is $150, or $210 with round trip bus transportation.

- If a family does not meet the income eligibility guidelines then the cost of camp is $400, or $460 with round trip bus transportation.

QUE PASA 3/5/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

     Today, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent. This is a special liturgical season when we take time to pray, reflect, repent, and renew so that we can grow closer to God as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Throughout Lent, I’d like to offer a reflection (from Daily Reflections for Lent: Not By Bread Alone) as we journey through Lent with each other and with our children:  

“Ash Wednesday is marked with a somber sign of our faith.  The cross on our forehead is meant to leave a lasting imprint deep within, like a spiritual tattoo that will linger long after we complete the 40-day course.  The sacrifices and prayers of the season help us clear a path, but we can’t stop there, not if we want to experience real transformation. God wants nothing less than our hearts broken open so that he might find a resting place within and make us whole. Yes, the exterior practices are important, but what matters most is what happens unseen within our hearts and souls.” 

Heavenly Father, guide us in the right ways as we begin our Lenten journey. Give us the courage to allow ourselves to be transformed by your love. Help us to use our Lenten sacrifices to dig deeper into our spiritual center and carve out a space for you alone. AMEN.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

March 7  marks the end of Trimester 2; therefore it is time for teachers to share report cards with parents and students.  Report cards will be discussed at the mandatory Parent-Teacher Conferences to be held from March 11-13.

On Class Dojo, each teacher shared a link to sign up for a Parent-Teacher Zoom conference for March 11, 12, or 13.  (March 11-13 will all be Minimum Days–12:30–dismissal.)  If you have not already done so, please choose a conference time slot in order to meet with your child’s teacher.  These conferences are important as we continue to support student growth and learning.  

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or call the school office.

AZTEC TREK UPDATE

Thank you to all who have already turned in their minimum $125 collection for our mandatory school fundraiser, the Aztec Trek!  

The final due date for the collection envelope is March 19, and the Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and games will be held on April 11.

Remember–the more money that you collect, the more prizes you receive and the more points your class will receive towards a class prize!

Families can submit their 2023 Tax Return along with their application, but we highly encourage families to submit their 2024 Tax Return as they won’t be required to update on next year’s renewal application. Current BASIC Fund families wanting to apply for a new sibling must fill out an application through the Existing Family Application page on our website. Families will need to input their email and BASIC Fund family account number (a separate email has been sent to families with their family account) to access their application. If the family does not know their BASIC Fund family account number, they need to follow the instructions noted to have their account number emailed to them. Kindergarten - Bella Garcia is sweet, caring, and always ready to lend a helping hand to her friends. She is a great example of the St. Peter’s School values of LOVE and SERVE. Whether it’s sharing supplies, offering kind words, or making sure everyone feels included, Bella’s kindness shines every day. She is also very respectful to the teacher and her classmates. Because she is so curious, hardworking, and dedicated, she has made a lot of progress in reading, English, Spanish, and Math, a shining example of the St. Peter’s core value of GROW. Thank you, Bella, for being such a wonderful friend and role model in our classroom. We are so proud of you!

1st Grade - Alejandra Soto Hernandez shows great responsibility and maturity for her age. She does her best at her work and stays on task very well. In addition, she is a good friend to her classmates and respectful towards adults. Good job, Alejandra!

2nd Grade - Tatiana Juarez is responsible, kind, and hard-working. She can be depended upon to follow directions and encourage others to do the right thing. She sets a great example for everyone in the class. Way to go, Tatiana!

3rd Grade - Carlos Cortez has been working really hard to grow each day in class. He has really improved recently earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath.  He is kind, funny, thoughtful, and has been known to bring the entire class a treat on special holidays thanks to his aunt which really sweetens our day.  Keep up the amazing work, Carlos! You are a star.

4th Grade - Leonardo Perez has been working really hard to grow academically in class each day. He works on earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath and is on schedule to complete Core5 by the end of the school year. Along with being a great student, he is also kind and helpful in class.  Keep up the amazing work, Leo! You are a star.

5th Grade - Tino Ortega is always a leader in the classroom. The work that he puts in always has a lot of thought and expression. He is always participating and sharing ideas. Hard work and consistent effort makes him a reliable example to others. He is also a solid team player and is good about bringing people together. We are proud of his hard work and dedication, especially towards the core values of ACCOMPLISH and UNITE. Keep up the great work, Tino!

6th Grade - Nadyah Ghattas holds the KEYS to St. Peter’s School, embracing new experiences with an open heart and mind. She actively works to better herself and shows appreciation for those around her in her own unique way. Nadya shares her time, gifts, and joy with both her classmates and teachers.  Congratulations, Nadyah!

7th Grade - Throughout the month of February, Jean Omondi has consistently demonstrated outstanding academic effort, a positive attitude, and a strong commitment to his classmates and teachers. Beyond the classroom, Jean exemplifies kindness and respect, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Way to grow, accomplish, love, serve and unite in 7th grade, Jean!

8th Grade - Laura Garcia has grown and accomplished so much this year! She genuinely wants to reach her academic potential by asking questions and seeking help whenever faced with an area of difficulty. She is willing to work hard in order to be successful. Laura is embracing these new experiences and challenges with such positivity and enthusiasm. Way to go, Laura!

QUE PASA 2/26/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

     One of our Kindergarteners asked about “The Golden Gate Rule.”  Such a cute reminder to treat others the way you want to be treated, or like Jesus said, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  An excerpt below from last Sunday’s reading from the Gospel of Luke reminds me of this teaching.   

Stop judging and you will not be judged.

Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.

Forgive and you will be forgiven.

Give, and gifts will be given to you;

a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,

will be poured into your lap.

For the measure with which you measure

will in return be measured out to you.

As we approach the Lenten season (coming up next week), this reading prepares us by bringing up themes of mercy, justice, and our relationships with others. We are invited to emulate God’s mercy, refrain from judgment, and extend forgiveness.  Yet another reminder that as we model our CORE VALUES and KEYS for our children, let us remember the Golden (Gate) Rule!

Next week, the season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (March 5).  As a school, we will attend Mass on Ash Wednesday at 9:30 AM.  Students should be in complete uniform for school Mass on Wednesday.  Families are welcome to join us at this Mass.

     This week, we celebrate the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter.   As explained by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB):  “The ‘Chair of St. Peter’ is an image of his seat of authority—an authority that was given not for his own personal gain but so that he could be a source of unity for the Church. Jesus told Peter, ‘I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and once you have turned back, you must strengthen your brothers’ (Lk 22:32). This feast reminds us of the significance of the ministry of St. Peter and the succession of popes who followed in his footsteps.”

      On this feast day, we remember St. Peer–our school’s patron saint–by taking extra time to reflect on our core values to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite; and to show others how we live out our KEYS:

Dear Parents, 

      This coming weekend, we will celebrate Presidents’ Day with a 4-day school break.  During this holiday, let us remember our nation’s leaders, service men and women, and even ourselves as Christian citizens, as we work to make positive contributions to our society.  We especially pray that our local, state, and federal leaders lead with respect and fairness, and are examples of fostering peace in our communities.  Together, let us offer this prayer (from unlockingthebible.org):

Dear God,

Thank you for your common grace and every good gift.  We know freedom, industry, jobs, healthcare, and a stable economy come at no small cost. Thank you for the men and women who’ve sacrificed to serve our Presidents and country by protecting and leading us. Thank you for making your “sun rise on the evil and on the good, and for sending rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). You show your goodness and kindness through these common, good gifts.

Show us how we can contribute, serve, speak, and act in a way that exalts Christ (Colossians 3:17).  We want to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to you, Father, through him. We want to use our gifts and opportunities to better our country and ultimately honor Jesus’ name.

SCHOOL CALENDAR REMINDERS

This week, we have a long holiday weekend for Presidents’ Day.  There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 14 and Monday, February 17.  School will resume with a regular schedule on Tuesday, February 18.  

VALENTINE’S DAY TREATS

Since there is no school on Valentine’s Day (February 14) due to the Presidents Day break, students may distribute pre-packaged snacks or treats and/or non-edible items (such as pencils or stickers) to their classmates on Thursday, February 13.  Please be sure that your child has enough items to distribute to each person in his/her class.  Teachers will let you know how many students are in each class.

SPRING PICTURE DAY

SCHOOLYARD RENOVATION

Our basketball court renovation is scheduled to be completed this week.  We will have a special unveiling ceremony and PE Takeover hosted by HoopBus (https://www.hoopbus.com/) tomorrow–Thursday, February 13 at 9:00 AM.  To participate, students must return the HoopBus waiver form (which were sent home and emailed last week) signed by a parent/guardian.

LOTERÍA NIGHT

Join us on Friday, February 21 from 5:30-8:00 PM for our LOTERÍA NIGHT Fundraiser!

There will be 6 Lotería Games, with chances to win different prizes.

- For children 12 and under – Purchase 1 Lotería card for $2 or 3 cards for $5 for a chance to win a children’s prize.

- For all other players 13 and up – Purchase 1 Lotería card for $5 or 3 cards for $12 for a chance to win gift cards and $100 CASH!

MESSAGE FROM THE BASIC FUND

The BASIC Fund’s new and renewal applications for the 2025-2026 School Year are now open and available on the website https://basicfund.org/how-to-apply/. Families can submit their 2023 Tax Return along with their application, but we highly encourage families to submit their 2024 Tax Return as they won’t be required to update on next year’s renewal application. Current BASIC Fund families wanting to apply for a new sibling must fill out an application through the Existing Family Application page on our website. Families will need to input their email and BASIC Fund family account number (a separate email has been sent to families with their family account) to access their application. If the family does not know their BASIC Fund family account number, they need to follow the instructions noted to have their account number emailed to them. The New and Renewal Application deadline is March 28, 2025.

ARCHDIOCESE FAMILY GRANT FINANCIAL AID FOR 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

Applications for archdiocesan financial aid for 2025-2026 year are now open via myTads.com.

Applications should be submitted by. April 15, 2025. To be considered for financial aid, one must live in one of the following counties: San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin county.

Congratulations to our January Students of the Month!

Kindergarten - Esco Toledo has made so much progress since the start of the year, encompassing the St. Peter's core value of GROW! It has been amazing to watch him become the excellent student he is. He shows our value of LOVE by being incredibly kind, polite, and a great listener to all. He demonstrates the value of UNITE by respecting his classmates' boundaries and reminding them to follow classroom expectations at all times. He ACCOMPLISHes every day by practicing more Spanish and using his curiosity to guide him toward new discoveries in all subjects. He also takes great pride in his learning. Big congratulations to January student of the month, Esco!

1st Grade - Celeste Ramos Hernandez always comes to school with a smile. She is always cheerful and a friend to everyone. She is doing especially well in reading, and knows almost all of the phonics patterns taught in 1st grade. Thank you Celeste, for demonstrating the St. Peter's core value of LOVE.

2nd Grade - Danichi Hisatake Portillo has demonstrated the St. Peter's core value of GROW. He has taken a leadership role in the classroom and is often encouraging others to make good choices. He is also ready to accept responsibilities within the classroom when needed. He is doing well in both math and reading and has already grown so much. Great job, Danichi!

3rd Grade - Omar Reyes Villareal has been working really hard to grow each day in class. He has really improved recently earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath which has helped his grade for Progress Reports.  He is kind, funny, and brings a lightness to the class that brightens our day.  Keep up the amazing work, Omar! You are a star.

4th Grade - Gabriel Quiroz Galdamez has been working really hard to grow each day in class. He continues to grow and accomplish in class earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath which led to a star progress report.  Along with being a great student, he is also kind and helpful to his friends in class.  Keep up the amazing work, Gabriel! You are a star.

5th Grade - No matter what the challenge is, Ines Hernandez puts a lot of effort in all academic subjects, especially writing and math. She often shows leadership by being one of the first to respond or pay attention. She is a reliable friend and is often seen brightening up someone's day. We are proud of her hard work and dedication especially towards St. Peter’s core values of UNITE and LOVE. Keep up the solid work, Ines! 

6th Grade - Michael Leon is always all-in with putting effort towards what he is doing.  He shows an excellent ability to set goals and shows eagerness to achieve them. He displays responsibility for the tasks that are given to him and for extending help to his classmates. He values the KEYS of St. Peter’s School.

7th Grade - Rio Rangel is our 7th grade student of the month!  Rio's dedication to learning is truly inspiring. Rio consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic, striving for excellence in all her subjects. Rio's positive attitude and willingness to help others create a welcoming and encouraging learning environment. Way to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite in 7th grade, Rio!

8th Grade - Ana Martins-Moreira has grown and accomplished so much this year! She has been an active member of our school community as the Student Council President, student, and friend. She continually demonstrates what it means to love and bring that positive energy to those around her. Ana has always been helpful in and outside the classroom and has a smile on her face, ready to tackle the next challenge. Way to go, Ana!

QUE PASA 2/5/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

      February is upon us! Since Valentine’s Day is in February, I associate the month of February with one of our school’s core values–LOVE.  February is also the month of the Holy Family, a family that we may look towards as an example of unconditional love.  Below is a prayer that we can offer together to remind us of our love for our families, and to remind us that we are a school family working together to help our children open their hearts and minds. As stated in our school philosophy–We are a family–somos una familia–with parents, students, and educators working together.

JESUS, Son of God and Son of Mary, bless our family. Graciously inspire in us the unity, peace, and mutual love that you found in your own family in the little town of Nazareth.

MARY, Mother of Jesus and Our Mother, nourish our family with your faith and your love. Keep us close to your Son, Jesus, in all our sorrows and joys.

SCHOOL CALENDAR REMINDERS

Please note that this Monday, February 10, is a 12:00 NOON Dismissal Day for students so that teachers may attend a professional development meeting.  BVCC will be open for students who regularly attend on Mondays.  All other students should be picked up or on their way home at the 12:00 PM dismissal time.

Next week, we also have a long holiday weekend for Presidents’ Day.  There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 14 and Monday, February 17.

VALENTINE’S DAY TREATS

Since there is no school on Valentine’s Day (February 14) due to the Presidents Day break, students may distribute pre-packaged snacks or treats and/or non-edible items (such as pencils or stickers) to their classmates on Thursday, February 13.  Please be sure that your child has enough items to distribute to each person in his/her class.  Teachers will let you know how many students are in each class.

SPRING PICTURE DAY

St. Peter’s Lifetouch Spring Picture Day will take place on Thursday, February 13.  These photos are OPTIONAL for students to take.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS IMMIGRATION WORKSHOPS

This FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7 – You are invited to join a “Know Your Rights” Immigration Workshop from 5:00-6:00 PM in the Parish Hall.  Learn how to create a safety plan and be prepared if approached by ICE.  Please contact the office if you have any questions.

STAR ASSESSMENTS

Through February 13, we continue with the 3rd round of STAR assessments for all students.  STAR assessments are required by the Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools, and these assessments provide one data point in students’ academic progress.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

TRIMESTER 2 PROGRESS REPORTS

Last week, Progress Reports for Trimester 2 were sent home.  Progress Reports provide a snapshot of your child’s progress, giving time to maintain grades or submit work for improvement before the end of the trimester Report Card arrives.  

Signed and returned Progress Reports are now past due. Please sign and return your child’s progress report if you have not already done so.  If you have any questions regarding the progress report, please contact your child’s teacher.

SCHOOLYARD RENOVATION

Our schoolyard renovation is currently in progress!  The court directly in front of the cafeteria will receive the major floor and basketball goal renovation, while the court closer to the church will receive refurbished basketball goals.  

During renovation, the court closer to the church will be accessible, so the Alabama gate will still be open at the usual times for morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups.

Dear Parents, 

      Happy Catholic Schools Week!  This week, we’ve been taking the time to reflect on Catholic education and all the ways that we learn to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite here at St. Peter’s School. We are thankful for those that support us in our Catholic school mission, and that here and at home, both our faith and our minds can grow.  In gratitude, I offer this prayer (adapted from www.thereligionteacher.com): 

Almighty Father,

You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people.  As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education.  As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.  Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools.  Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today.  Thank you for the parents who have given support to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives.  Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education.

QUE PASA 1/22/2025 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

      We are now a little more than halfway through our school year.  Today is school day #91 out of 180 days of the school year!     

       Though we face challenges each day, we can uplift ourselves by realizing our accomplishments.  Each day at school, we remind the students of our Schoolwide Learning Expectations (also known as SLEs), and how we live out our CORE VALUES to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite.  Our school community continues to accomplish our goal to meet our SLEs, and at this time–as we are preparing for Catholic Schools Week–I am especially reminded of the following SLEs:

- GROW by facing challenges with optimism and faith in God.

- ACCOMPLISH by listening and communicating effectively in social and academic environments.

- LOVE by demonstrating an appreciation for what others have done for us.

CALENDAR REMINDER
Monday, January 27, we have a 12:00 dismissal day for teachers to attend an In-Service meeting.  BVCC will be open for students who are registered for Mondays.  All other students should be picked up or on their way home at the 12:00 dismissal time.

We have received generous donations from the Olympic Club Foundation and Hoop Bus (https://www.hoopbus.com/) to help us renovate our schoolyard!  Because Hoop Bus will be in the Bay Area for the NBA All-Star Game happening next month at Chase Center, they would like to schedule the unveiling of the renovated schoolyard around the time of the All-Star Game in February.  Weather permitting, we hope to remain on this schedule!

While renovations are in process, we will make adjustments to morning drop-offs, recesses, and afternoon pickups.  Please stay tuned on Class Dojo and Que Pasa for announcements on those special instructions!  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

PRAYER SERVICE

On Friday, January 17 at 8:30 AM, our 8th graders will lead a school prayer service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  You are welcome to join us in church for this service.

CALENDAR REMINDERS
As noted on our school calendar, there is no school on Monday, January 20 in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

Also, on Monday, January 27, we have a 12:00 dismissal day for teachers to attend an Archdiocese In-Service meeting.  BVCC will be open for students who are registered for Mondays.  All other students should be picked up or on their way home at the 12:00 dismissal time.

ARCHDIOCESE FAMILY GRANT FINANCIAL AID FOR 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

Applications for archdiocesan financial aid for 2025-2026 year are now open via myTads.com.

Applications should be submitted by. April 15, 2025. To be considered for financial aid, one must live in one of the following counties: San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin county.

SCHOOLYARD RENOVATION

We have received generous donations from the Olympic Club Foundation and Hoop Bus (https://www.hoopbus.com/) to help us renovate our schoolyard!  Because Hoop Bus will be in the Bay Area for the NBA All-Star Game happening next month at Chase Center, they would like to schedule the unveiling of the renovated schoolyard around the time of the All-Star Game in February.  Weather permitting, we hope to remain on this schedule!

While renovations are in process, we will make adjustments to morning dropoffs, recesses, and afternoon pickups.  Please stay tuned on Class Dojo and Que Pasa for announcements on those special instructions!  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Kindergarten - Isabella Viana is bright, curious, respectful, and kind. Her eagerness to learn shows through in every subject. With her openness to GROW, she has progressed so much in her Spanish abilities! Her positive, bubbly energy invites joy wherever she goes. She is the first to offer to help in the classroom, which makes her a great example of how to live out the St. Peter's core value of SERVE. She also helps UNITE the class by encouraging and lending a hand to her classmates whenever they need. Kindergarten is so lucky to have Isabella, our December student of the month!  

1st Grade - Valeria Rojas Capcha is a great example of the St. Peter's core value of GROW. She comes in with a smile every day. She is always friendly and not afraid to ask for help. She is especially growing in her English skills in addition to her wonderful Spanish. Great job, Valeria!

2nd grade - Carolina Vega Lopez is always responsible, kind, and hard-working.  Every day she is an example of the St. Peter's core value of SERVE. She is often the first to volunteer to help both classmates and grownups. Her attitude and kindness are great examples to others. Great job, Carolina!

3rd grade - Isabella Calderon Sola has been working really hard to grow and accomplish in class each day. She has really improved recently earning units and puzzles on Lexia and STMath which has helped her grade this grading period.  She is an amazing artist and has a passion for art.  She is kind, funny, and brings a light to the class that brightens our day.  Keep up the amazing work, Isabella! You are a star.

4th grade - Sophia Chavez Ortega has been working really hard to grow and accomplish academically in class. She has been a true leader in class asking her friends to help keep the classroom a place where everyone can learn.  She really cares and has an enthusiasm for learning and is always consistent with her class and homework.  Along with being a solid 4th Grade student, she is a loyal and great friend, too. Keep up the amazing work, Sophia! You are a star.

5th grade - Andrew Contreras has been showing a lot of leadership in the classroom. He is a reliable person for any classroom job and puts hard work in everything he does. He is quick to assist others, and our classroom runs efficiently and smoothly with his help. We are proud of his hard work and dedication especially towards our core valuesUNITE and SERVE. Keep up the consistent work and effort, Andrew! 

6th grade - Astrid Zoe Sarmiento Magallanes is a diligent student.  She completes her assignments on time, and she shows strong effort to learn the subjects. She demonstrates excellent behavior inside and outside the classroom.  She is well-mannered and respectful to peers and teachers. She always extends help to her classmates and values the KEYS of St. Peter’s School.  Thank you, Zoe!

7th grade - Damian Perez Ortega has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a commitment to academic excellence. Damian is always willing to lend a helping hand to classmates and actively participates in class discussions. We are proud to recognize Damian for his contributions to our classroom community. Way to grow, accomplish, love, serve and unite in 7th grade, Damian! 

8th grade - Alejandra Nava-Gomez has continued to grow and accomplish so much this year! Her focus and attention to detail has come through in every new experience she encounters. She is constantly asking what she can do to help and seeking ways to better her 8A community. THE LITURGICAL YEAR

During this time after Jesus’ birth, we remember the Feast of the Epiphany in the liturgical year, when the three Kings find the Holy Family and bring gifts to Jesus.  Next week, we enter Ordinary Time on the liturgical calendar, taking us through the life of Christ and our own growth.  We continue our prayers so that we continue to grow closer to Jesus!

CHRISTMAS PRAYER SERVICE

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Our next Family Movie Night is coming up this Friday, December 13, 2024 at 6:30 PM.

Admission is $4 for students, and $6 for adults and children 4 and older.  Snacks will be sold for $1-$6.

Kindergarten - Mateo Medina is an excellent participant in class and a sweet friend to his classmates. He shares so many interesting ideas during English and Spanish time that demonstrate he is paying attention, learning, and growing in our class! He is very caring with others, showing our St. Peters' core value of LOVE.  Mateo has already shown so much improvement in his language and math abilities. He works hard on class activities and has shown improvement in his coloring. He is such a special addition to our class and knows how to put a smile on everyone's face.  Thank you Mateo!

1st Grade - Dylan Omondi is always full of enthusiasm and excitement. He is a great example of the St. Peter's core value of ACCOMPLISH. He comes to school with a big smile, ready to take on the day.  He is always excited to learn what to do next. Great job, Dylan!

2nd Grade - Leo Pellom III is respectful, hard-working, and responsible. He demonstrates St. Peter's core value of Accomplish in every subject. Keep up the great job, Leo! 

3rd Grade - Britney Diaz Hernandez has been a welcomed addition to our class.  Coming to a new school takes a lot of courage, and she hasn't backed down from the challenge.  She has made friends and accomplished quite a bit in class.  She continues to work hard to grow academically; she really cares about her learning and is always consistent with classwork and homework. Additionally, she grew in both ELA and Math based on her most recent STAR Test scores. She is a great friend and her smile brightens our classroom each day. Keep up the amazing work, Britney! You are a star.

4th Grade - Sofia Santos Rosales has worked really hard to grow and accomplish in class. She really cares about her learning and is always consistent with classwork and homework. Additionally, she grew in both ELA and Math based on her most recent STAR Test scores. She is an amazing friend and "big sister" to some of our 3rd grade students in class, helping and supporting them. Keep up the amazing work, Sofia! You are a star.

5th Grade - Frida Garcia listens and follows directions the first time. She puts a lot of thought into her work and never takes shortcuts. She puts herself to a high standard and works well in any group with strong focus and good effort. Frida has respect for others and makes others feel nice, calm, and welcomed. We are so proud of her hard work and dedication especially towards ACCOMPLISH and UNITE. Keep up the great work, Frida!

6th Grade - Ethan Morales Romero is a great example of a student who values the KEYS of St. Peter.  He is a helping hand to his classmates and teachers. He makes sure that he always finishes his work on time and does extra credit. He shows respect to all the teachers and classmates and is responsible for his actions and decisions.  Great job, Ethan!

7th Grade - Yunaimy Martinez Rodriguez has shown an incredible commitment to being accountable for her learning. She has shown dedication to her classroom community by going above and beyond to lend a helping hand. She shows her leadership skills whenever necessary to support her classmates. Yunaimy demonstrates our core values each day through her leadership and commitment to academic excellence. Way to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite in 7th grade Yunaimy! 

8th Grade - Alan Gramajo De Leon is constantly embracing new experiences with an open heart and open mind by tackling his 8th grade year with enthusiasm and diligence. He has also shown a lot of growth and accomplished so much this year. He is a positive individual in our 8A community, and has proven how to live out the KEYS! Awesome job, Alan!

QUE PASA 12/4/2024 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        We are now in the liturgical season of Advent!  As we enter into the second week of Advent next week, we celebrate two feasts of Mary: the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  It’s very appropriate that we celebrate Mary during the season of Advent as we prepare for the coming of Jesus, because without Mary, and without her faith, strength, and love, we wouldn’t have Jesus.  And after all, Jesus is the reason for the season!

        Pope Francis wrote an Advent reflection a few years ago that reminds us of how Mary is a role model for us today.  Mary is our sign of FAITH and HOPE.  As Pope Francis describes, Mary is a loving mother who inspires us all to put God first in our lives.  Here’s a part of what Pope Francis wrote:

        “We bet on hope, on the hope of peace, and it will be possible!The journey is never finished. Just as in each of our own lives, there is always a need to restart and to rise again.Mary is a model of this spiritual attitude, to this way of being and of journeying in life.Although she was just a simple girl, she carried in her heart the hope of God.  In her womb, the hope of God took flesh, became man, and made history: Jesus Christ.  Let us be guided by her, she who is mother, she is a ‘mama’ and knows how to lead us. Let us be guided by her in this time of waiting.”                                                                                                         So let’s remember Mary, during Advent and every day, and how she is a role model for us to have courage, to put God first in our lives, and to have open hearts and open minds.  And when we do that, GREAT things can happen!

In addition, students in grades 3 through 8 will have the opportunity to receive Reconciliation with their class and teachers during this Advent season.  We pray that all our school church celebrations this Advent will help prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus!

REPORT CARDS

This past Monday, Trimester 1 report cards and STAR Test results were sent home with students.  Please review the report card and STAR results, sign the report card, and return it to your child’s teacher by this Friday, December 6.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Our next Family Movie Night is coming up on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 6:30 PM.

Admission is $4 for students, and $6 for adults and children 4 and older.  Snacks will be sold for $1-$6.

You may pre-order your tickets and food for the big night.  Pick up pre-order forms and donation forms from the school office.  Forms were also sent home with students..

Limited quantities of tickets will be sold for our family movie night!  Order your tickets before they sell out!

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We live our core value to UNITE as students wear their school uniform with pride.  Please remember that the complete daily uniform includes the plain white polo shirt, navy slacks or uniform skirt/jumper, green uniform sweatshirt, black or white socks, and solid black or solid white sneakers (tennis shoes).  

On Fridays (unless there is a church service), students may wear the optional gray Aztecs hoodie, Aztecs sweatpants, and Aztecs T-shirt.

** To purchase the gray Aztecs sweats, obtain an order form in the school office.

QUE PASA 11/26/2024 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, I want to say Thank You for being part of the St. Peter’s School family!  I am proud to be part of our community as we continue to teach our children to live out and celebrate our core values to grow, accomplish, love, serve, and unite.  

        While we are thankful for all our blessings—like our families, our friends, and our homes, to name a few—let us also remember to pray for those who are in need and who are facing particularly difficult challenges during this holiday time.  Together, let us offer this prayer (written by “Anonymous”):

O Heavenly Father:

We thank You for food and remember the hungry.

We thank You for health and remember the sick.

We thank You for friends and remember the friendless.

We thank You for freedom and remember the enslaved.

May these remembrances stir us to service,

That Your gifts to us may be used for others.  AMEN.

During this holiday season, let us not forget that we will soon be entering into a new church–or liturgical–season… the season of ADVENT!  As this liturgical season approaches, begin thinking of ways that you and your child can prepare your hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time!

THANKSGIVING BREAK

There is NO SCHOOL Wednesday-Friday, November 27-29, for the Thanksgiving break.  

After the Thanksgiving break, we enter the liturgical season of Advent on Sunday, December 1!  During this season, we prepare for the joyous birth of Jesus Christ.  

School will resume on Monday, December 2 with a regular schedule.  

TRIMESTER 2

We are now in our Second Trimester of the school year.  REPORT CARDS for Trimester 1 will be going home with students on Monday, December  2, when we return from the Thanksgiving break.  Also going home with the Report Cards are your child’s latest STAR Test results.

Please review the report card and STAR results, sign the report card, and return it to your child’s teacher by Friday, December 6.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
