QUE PASA 9/11/2024 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

Yesterday, celebrating our first Mass of the school year led me to reflect on the Sacraments and the meaning they have in our lives.  Here is an excerpt on an article (found on www.usccb.org) by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops about God’s gift of the Sacraments:

We recognize that the Sacraments have a visible and invisible reality, a reality open to all the human senses but grasped in its God-given depths with the eyes of faith. … The visible reality we see in the Sacraments is their outward expression, the form they take, and the way in which they are administered and received. The invisible reality we cannot "see" is God's grace, his gracious initiative in redeeming us through the death and Resurrection of his Son. His initiative is called grace because it is the free and loving gift by which he offers people a share in his life, and shows us his favor and will for our salvation. Our response to the grace of God's initiative is itself a grace or gift from God by which we can imitate Christ in our daily lives.

The saving words and deeds of Jesus Christ are the foundation of what he would communicate in the Sacraments through the ministers of the Church.  Guided by the Holy Spirit, the Church recognizes the existence of Seven Sacraments instituted by the Lord. Through the Sacraments, God shares his holiness with us so that we, in turn, can make the world holier.

As a family, I encourage you to live out the faith by attending Sunday Mass and joining us at our school Masses when possible, and witness the grace of God in receiving the Sacraments!

Back-to-School Night is TONIGHT–Wednesday, September 11.

All new students and families in MIDDLE SCHOOL (including ALL 6th grade families) – please arrive at 5:00 PM in church for a special Middle School orientation.  For all other families, the BTS Night will begin at 5:30 PM in the church.

Following the meeting in the church, parents may visit classrooms for a general grade-level information meeting with teachers.

* Parking will be very limited, so we encourage carpooling, public transportation, or walking to school for Back-to-School Night!

MISSION PARISHES CELEBRATION

St. Anthony's/Immaculate Conception, St. Charles, and St. Peter's– otherwise known as our Mission Parishes–will be having a weeklong celebration to commemorate each of their respective patron saints!

ALUMNI MEMORIAL AND MERCY DAY MASS

You are invited to join us at St. Peter’s annual Alumni Memorial and Mercy Day Mass on Sunday, September 22 at 2:30 PM in St. Peter’s Church.  A reception in the parish hall will follow the Mass.

At this Mass, we will remember our Sisters of Mercy, who founded St. Peter’s School.  We will also pray for St. Peter’s alumni and friends who have gone home to God.

We are looking for volunteers to help with the setup and clean-up of the reception.  If you are interested, please call the school office at 415-647-8662.

**Students who attend this Mass in full uniform will receive a free dress pass to be used on the following day!

DROP-OFF ZONES
When dropping off or picking up your child/children, please do not park or leave your car unattended in the white zone or in the schoolyard driveway.  These areas must remain open to help ease the flow of traffic and must be available in case of emergencies.  Thank you for your cooperation!

STUDENT LUNCHES

Each full day of school (7:55 AM-3:00 PM), be sure to send your child to school with a lunch.  There are no lunch services at school.

Each day, students should bring their own water bottle and a recess snack.

Snacks and lunches may NOT be dropped off in the office during the school day.  Thank you for your cooperation on this matter!

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We live our core value to UNITE as students wear their school uniform with pride.  Please remember that the complete daily uniform includes the plain white polo shirt, navy slacks or uniform skirt/jumper, green uniform sweatshirt, black or white socks, and solid black or solid white sneakers (tennis shoes).

On Fridays (unless there is a church service), students may wear the optional gray Aztecs hoodie, Aztecs sweatpants, and Aztecs T-shirt.

** To purchase the gray Aztecs sweats, obtain an order form in the school office.

For more details on the school uniform, refer to the Uniform section of the Parent-Student Handbook that was distributed on the first day of school, which is also available on the school website: http://www.stpeterssf.org/parents-students

Students who are out of uniform will receive a “Uniform Notice” to be signed by a parent or guardian, as a reminder about the uniform policy, and to help us unite as a school community!
