Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school! Mr. Suarez (Director of School Culture and Community Life), Mrs. Fresnoza (Director of Academics), all the faculty and staff, and I hope that you had a safe and restful summer break.
We understand that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are faced with a number of challenges. Already, this school year is beginning very differently, as we all participate in distance learning. Until further notice from the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Archdiocese, we will continue with distance learning for all students. If you have any questions regarding distance learning, please contact the office or your child’s teacher so that we can help to make this a positive experience.
With our Growth Mindset, we can view our challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, and we can always turn to God for strength and guidance. So for this new school year, let us pray:
God of our past, our present and our future,
God of our dreams, our designs and our decisions,
Be love in us as we journey through this new school year.
Be our inner vision, that we may see life through your eyes,
Be our inner hearing, that we may listen well for your call,
Be our inner judgment, so we may discern clearly that which gives life, promotes growth, and nurtures love. As we move into this school year, fill us with hope and abiding trust that you dwell in us,
So that, in both joy and sorrow, we radiate hope. AMEN. (from https://rscj.org/prayer-new-school-year)
Wherever we may be, I look forward to another great school year with everyone in our St. Peter’s Family!
Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, Unite!
St. Peter’s has the KEYS to Open Hearts, Open Minds!
--Mrs. Sandra Jimenez
P.S. Que Pasa will be sent to you every Wednesday through Class Dojo. In addition, it will be posted on the school website, www.stpeterssf.organd sent to you via SchoolSpeak. Please take the time to read through the newsletter each week since it does contain important information.
CULTURAL VISION
Even while distance learning, we continue helping our students live out St. Peter’s KEYS, which are based on our CORE VALUES of Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite:
Knowledge feeds GROWTH.
Every ACCOMPLISHMENT needs courage.
You are LOVE.
SERVICE UNITES.
Throughout the year, the teachers and students will be focusing on how to live out this vision. Teachers will also be rewarding virtual KEYS (points) to students on Class Dojo as they show evidence of living out the core values.
**Make sure your child sets up his/her OWN student account on Class Dojo, and they can earn their first virtual KEYS when this task is completed!
LEARNING MATERIALS AND LEARNING SPACE
Thank you to all who came to pick up the learning materials this past Monday and Tuesday, and for all the parents who attended the informational Zoom meetings with the teachers. Now, please make sure students keep their supplies—including books, papers, pencils, and device—in a learning space at home without distractions, so that students are able to fully participate in Zoom classes and complete daily assignments!
Today (Wednesday), will be the first Zoom classes for students. Please follow your teacher’s directions on Class Dojo for the Zoom link and meeting time. Tomorrow (Thursday), we will begin following the regular distance learning schedule distributed by teachers with the learning supplies, and available on the school website: http://www.stpeterssf.org/parents-students
Below is a list of some Zoom expectations for students. For a complete list, refer to the Parent & Student Handbook, which was distributed with learning materials, or see the Distance Learning Plan on the school website: http://www.stpeterssf.org/parents-students
Conduct yourself according to the "Student Discipline Contract" in the St. Peter’s Parent-Student Handbook.
Do not enter Zoom sessions you haven’t been invited to join.
Dress in appropriate St. Peter’s School free dress attire.
Student microphones may be disabled to help the teacher retain attention during the lesson.
Video should be enabled to show your presence.
Do not eat or play with other items or devices during Zoom sessions.
Zoom sessions may not be recorded without parental consent from all participants.
SCHOOL FORMS AND SUPPLIES
At the learning supply pick-ups, students received an envelope with important forms for parents to complete. Please hold on to these forms, and once we are able to open the school for in-person instruction, return the completed forms to your child’s teacher.
The items on the school supply list may also be kept at home for distance learning. Students may bring in those supplies when we are able to open the school for in-person instruction.
TDAP VACCINATIONS
California Law, (California State Law A354) requires that all students entering 7th-12thgrades show proof of a Tdap (Whooping Cough) Pertussis booster shot. If you have not already done so, please submit documentation to the school no later than September 4. The San Francisco Department of Health informs us we cannot offer a grace period for those who do not have a booster. Please contact your child’s health care provider and arrange for the Tdap booster.
