Dear Parents,

    I feel that our school year is off to a strong start, thanks to all the members of our school family—teachers, staff, students, parents, and caregivers.  As a community, we are living our core values to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite, and our KEYS (Knowledge feeds GROWTH; Every ACCOMPLISHMENT needs courage;  You are LOVE; and Service Unites) are daily reminders at school to help us live out our core values.   

     We also have our Student Learning Expectations-- “SLEs”—which further guide our students to live the Core Values.  The teachers and I will be regularly referencing our SLEs, which are listed below, posted throughout the school, and available on our school website, www.stpeterssf.org.

CALENDAR REMINDERS

As noted on our school calendar, this Friday, September 1 is a 12:00 Dismissal so that teachers may attend a Faith Formation In-service.  Please plan accordingly for your child’s pick-up at the 12:00 dismissal time.

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 4 in honor of the Labor Day holiday.  School will resume on Tuesday, September 5 with a regular schedule.

DROP-OFF ZONES
When dropping off or picking up your child/children, please do not park or leave your car unattended in the white zone or in the schoolyard driveway.  These areas must remain open to help ease the flow of traffic and must be available in case of emergencies.  Thank you for your cooperation!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT

Save the date for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 13 at 5:30 PM.  We will begin with an all-parent meeting, followed by visits to the individual classrooms.

BVCC AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

In order to attend the BVCC after school program, students MUST be registered for the 2023-2024 school year.  Students who are not registered will not be allowed to attend the after school program, and must be picked up or on their way home at the school’s dismissal time.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We live our core value to UNITE as students wear their school uniform with pride.  Please remember that the complete daily uniform includes the plain white polo shirt, navy slacks or uniform skirt/jumper, green uniform sweatshirt, black or white socks, and solid black or solid white sneakers (tennis shoes).  

On Fridays (unless there is a church service), students may wear the optional gray Aztecs hoodie, Aztecs sweatpants, and Aztecs T-shirt.

** To purchase the gray Aztecs sweats, obtain an order form in the school office.

Students who are out of uniform will receive a “Uniform Notice” to be signed by a parent or guardian, as a reminder about the uniform policy, and to help us unite as a school community!

This year, we are partnering with SCHOOL FOODIES (https://schoolfoodies.com/) as our school lunch provider. 

School lunches will no longer be sold by or prepared in our school cafeteria kitchen.

Before you may order your child’s lunch with this service, you must register with School Foodies.  Go to https://schoolfoodies.com/ to register your child.  

** Our school registration code is SF-SPS

  • ALL lunch orders must be done online directly with School Foodies.

  • School Foodies lunch orders may be placed for a day, week, or month at a time.  

  • The order deadline is 3 BUSINESS DAYS IN ADVANCE of service dates.  

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: 

- Each day, students should bring their own water bottle and a recess snack.

- On Regular Schedule Days (7:55 AM - 3:00 PM), should order or bring lunch from home.

- Snacks and lunches may NOT be dropped off in the office during the school day.

SCHOOL DAY SCHEDULE
The Alabama gate and Florida doors will open for students and parents at 7:45 AM, and you may wait on the schoolyard for the first bell at 7:55 AM.  Students may begin walking to class at 7:55 AM, and will be marked tardy if not in class by 8:00 AM.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are 3:00 PM dismissal days, unless otherwise noted on the school calendar.  School gates and doors will close at 3:15 PM.

Wednesdays are Minimum Days with 12:30 PM dismissal.  School gates and doors will close at 12:45 PM on Minimum Days.

QUE PASA 6/7/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents, 

       Together, we made it to the last few days of school!  Your child progressed and developed socially, academically, and spiritually this year at St. Peter’s. Continue to support their growth over the summer. Seek out fun, new, and enriching experiences as a family.  Read books and magazines for fun.  Enjoy the outdoors safely. Pray together.  I promise to do the same with my own family!  

        I share with you this prayer to end this school year:

God of wisdom,
We thank you for all the gifts you have given us throughout this school year. We praise you for blessing us with knowledge, so that we may use this knowledge to make our world a better place—to be positive examples of love and service. 

As we come to the end of this school year, we thank you for the good things you have done for us, and we praise you for all who have shared in the work of this school. We ask you to bless them in your love and give them refreshment and peace. 

We pray that everyone has a safe summer, and for us to return to school even more ready to learn and grow.

This Friday, June 9, we will have our school Mass at 8:30 AM in celebration of our last day of school.  You are invited to join us for Mass!

Since we will be attending school Mass this Friday, please be sure that your child is in COMPLETE SCHOOL UNIFORM.  No Gray sweats or free dress passes may be used on this day.

In order to help lessen the effects of the “summer slide”--learning loss over the summer–students are being sent home with their documents for their grade-level summer learning challenge.

Please help to ensure that your child completes their summer learning challenge gradually over the summer, and return their completed work at the beginning of the next school year!

        The 8th graders are taking their final steps towards GRADUATION!  We proudly share in their accomplishments as we—their families and teachers—have helped them to lay the foundation for their future.  Now, they are ready to take on their next steps in high school!

Let us offer this prayer for our soon-to-be graduates:

 Loving God, we thank you for our graduates. You have blessed them during their years at St. Peter’s School with wisdom, friendships, and skills. Continue to challenge them to make this world a better place. Help them to look forward to their next steps in high school. Give them faith and a sense of purpose in

On Tuesday, June 6, we will have a Kindergarten - 7th grade Awards Ceremony and Prayer Service at 1:15 PM.

During the final week of school, there will be no Tuesday school Mass.  Instead, we will have school Mass on Friday, June 9 at 8:30 AM in celebration of our last day of school.

The re-registration forms are  now past due. Please submit this completed form as soon as possible. 

The registration fee per student is also now past due.  As noted on the letter sent home, the registration fees are as follows:

- Students entering grades K-7: $505

- Students entering 8th grade: $550 (includes 8th grade sweatshirt)

INFECTION MITIGATION PLAN

We continue to endure the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  To prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school, we have developed a School Infection Mitigation Plan, which was given to each parent on the first day of school as part of the Parent-Student Handbook.  The Infection Mitigation Plan is also available on our school website at http://www.stpeterssf.org/pandemic-reopening-plan

Please remember -- If your child is feeling ill or has been exposed to COVID-19, phone the school office and keep your child at home!

Congratulations to our May Students of the Month!

Kindergarten - Memphis Torres Nava brings joy to the classroom. He comes to class ready to learn with a can-do attitude. This young person is friends with everyone and has a laugh that lights up the whole room. He is always ready for a sports game and a new activity. Congratulations, Memphis!

1st Grade - Laylah Olivares Marin is the student of the month for May. She is respectful and nice towards her classmates. She enjoys helping others and embodies the golden rule of treating others with kindness. Academically, Laylah tries her best and loves to read. Congratulations, Laylah!

2nd Grade - Rose Solis demonstrates the St. Peter's key of LOVE. TShe comes to school excited to learn and is enthusiastic to share what she has learned with others. Rose brings a lot of enthusiasm to the classroom and school community. Her smile radiates positivity and kindness. Way to go, Rose!

3rd Grade - Joshua Estrada is our student of the month for May. Joshua shows enthusiasm, energy and excitement in the classroom. He goes above and beyond with his classwork and is always a team player. We are happy to have him in our classroom!

4th Grade - Camila Soto Hernandez has shined this school year living out our school's KEYS and keeping an open heart and open mind.  She is a great student always ensuring that her classwork and homework is complete and turned in.  She is also a great teammate; she is always so positive, encouraging, and supportive of her friends on the team.  Keep up the amazing work Camila!  You are a star.

5th Grade - Bella Gonzalez- Aguilar has made great strides in her social and academic development this year. She also volunteers frequently and makes significant contributions to the class. Brava, Bella!

6th Grade - Veronica Juarez is such a hardworking, compassionate, and thoughtful learner, filled with love, joy, and happiness. Vee is fearless in speaking up and using their voice when something needs to be corrected. They continue to model what a St. Peter's student should be here at school by serving, uniting, and accomplishing. Thank you for being you! Congratulations, Veronica!

7th Grade - Julissa Rodriguez is mature, open-minded, and curious. She has a strong work ethic and puts a lot of effort into classroom discussions and assignments. She is easy-going with a deeply kind soul. Thank you for sharing your stellar presence, Juli :)

8th Grade - Nelly Ortiz has continued to grow as she ends her 8th grade year strong! She has stepped out of her comfort zone to serve her St. Peter's community, as the Student Body Treasurer, student, and friend. Nelly has continuously demonstrated what it means to love and has appreciated what others have done for her by paying it forward, whether small or big, whether young or old. She always has a smile on her face and is ready to tackle the next challenge. Way to go Nelly!

QUE PASA 5/24/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       It’s SPIRIT WEEK at St. Peter’s School--a special week where we can celebrate our unity and school pride!  As parents, some ways we can show school spirit are by supporting our children as they learn new things at school, guiding them to have open hearts and open minds, attending school events and sports games, and volunteering to help at school.  As we take part in this fun week recognizing the different ways we can show our school spirit, let us take time to pray as a community to the HOLY SPIRIT for guidance and strength, especially in these final six weeks of school.

COME, HOLY SPIRIT,

And fill our hearts with your gifts.

Let our love be true and our charity be generous.

Help us in all our needs 

and grant us the knowledge to do what is right.

Advise us in our doubts, 

strengthen us in our weaknesses, 

protect us when we are tempted,

There will be NO school Mass on Tuesday, May 30.  Instead, we will celebrate together as a school for our 8th graders’ BACCALAUREATE MASS on Friday, June 2 at 9:30 AM.  Families are welcome to join us for this special Mass in honor of St. Peter’s Class of 2023!

QUE PASA 5/17/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       While we continue to pray to our Blessed Mother Mary during this month of May, we are reminded that without Mary and her courage, love, and faith in God, we would not have had our savior Jesus in our lives.  We are still in the Easter season, so we continue to remember Jesus’ sacrifice and the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. 

       On Thursday, we celebrate the 40th day after Easter, and that means we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension—when Jesus rose to Heaven, body and soul.  In gratitude for and awe in Jesus’ glorious ascension, let us pray the prayer of the Ascension, while also asking God for guidance to keep up our strength and hope during these last few weeks of school:

God our Father,

make us joyful

in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ.

May we follow him into the new creation,

for his ascension is our glory and our hope.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER SERVICE

Tomorrow–Thursday, May 18–we will have a prayer service in St. Peter’s Church at 8:45 AM.  We will crown our Blessed Mother Mary, remember Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven, and welcome our new Student Council officers into their leadership positions.

QUE PASA 5/10/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

      This Sunday, we celebrate Mother’s Day. We recognize the important role that mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and all mother-figures play in our lives!  We are thankful for the love they show us and the sacrifices they make for us. During this month of May, we also dedicate time to pray to our Blessed Mother Mary.  We look to Mary as an example of faith, love, and courage as she said YES to God!  Let us pray in thanksgiving for our Blessed Mother Mary and for all mother-figures in our lives.

Heavenly Father, 

We Praise You and we thank You for the gift of our mothers, through whom You give us life and through whom we experience love. We thank You for Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, a mother so gracious and a woman of example in motherhood for all of us.  May our prayer warm the hearts of all mothers. May they know that they are loved and precious. May mothers all over the world feel in their heart the joys of being called a mother and in all their goodness and all their failings, be blessed in Your love and forgiveness.  We pray in Grace they belong close to You Lord Jesus Christ, AMEN.

Congratulations to our April Students of the Month!

Kindergarten - Daniely Rivera Arenivar works well with everyone. She always comes to school ready for any challenge.  She is in the classroom and school yard with an open mind and an open heart. She encourages everyone to try their best and lights up any room that she walks into. Congratulations on being student of the month!

1st Grade - Omar Reyes Villarreal follows instructions during class time and tries his best to complete morning and class work. Omar follows playground rules and treats his classmates with respect. Keep up the good work Omar. Congratulations!

2nd Grade - Ethan Siliezar Lopes demonstrates the St. Peter's KEYS of GROWTH and ACCOMPLISH. Ethan works hard in class and is always trying his best. He takes great care in the work that he does, taking his time to complete his assignments, especially in writing and math. Thank you for being an example to your classmates. Way to go, Ethan!

3rd Grade - Ersendyck Ogongo has been helpful to his classmates. He participates a lot in class and always has insightful thoughts to share. He is also responsible for checking his own work and is a great reminder for the teacher. Thank you for being part of our classroom Ersendyck!

4th Grade - Roberto Garcia has been a shining example of a student living out our school's KEYS.  He works hard each day to grow as a student doing additional STMath and Lexia at home earning additional units and puzzles.  He is genuine and kind to his friends, helping them in any way in and outside of the classroom.  Keep up the great work Roberto; you are a star! 

5th Grade - Hector Lopez Gomez has demonstrated very good progress this year. He enjoys solving problems in different ways and using his creativity to develop new ideas. Bravo, Hector!

6th Grade - Ella Jimenez has demonstrated what being a St. Peter student means by growing, loving, accomplishing, serving, and uniting. Ella is a huge help to her teachers and classmates. I'm proud to see the young person you're becoming and dusting into being! Congratulations!

7th Grade - Isaiah Arguello spreads love on a daily basis with his positive and resilient demeanor. He has a strong classroom presence and is always engaged. He is outgoing, upbeat, and respectful which fosters a strong community bond. Isaiah, you are lovely and brilliant!

8th Grade - Sara Becerra has grown and accomplished so much this year! She genuinely wants to reach her academic potential by asking questions and seeking help whenever faced with an area of difficulty. She is willing to work hard in order to be successful. Sara is embracing these new experiences and challenges with such positivity and enthusiasm. Way to go Sara!

QUE PASA 5/3/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

      Please join me in congratulating our 8th graders who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this past Saturday!  They have been “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit!” This is an important step in their faith journey, and they were able to reach this point thanks to the loving support of their families and teachers. 

       It is our hope that they are now united more firmly to Christ; have a strengthened bond to the Church; and possess a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ.  How appropriate that they took this step in their faith journey just one month ahead of Pentecost–which is considered the “birthday” of the Church.  Pentecost is the day the apostles were granted the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 

     And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong   

     driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they  

     were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, 

     which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And 

     they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak 

     in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. 

     [Acts 2:2-4

I hope that we as parents, along with our newly-confirmed 8th graders, will continue to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, especially as we continue along this Easter Season.  We strive to be positive examples of love, kindness, peace, patience, courage, and faithfulness, and live out our St. Peter’s KEYS!

PROGRESS REPORTS
Today, all students have been sent home with their Trimester 3 Progress Reports.  These Progress Reports help to illustrate how your child is progressing thus far for this Trimester.  Please sign and return this Progress Report to your child’s teacher by this Friday.

STAR TESTING

Through Friday, May 12, all students will be completing their STAR assessments.  These tests are required by the Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools and help to provide some data on student progress in Math and Reading.  If you have any questions about STAR testing, please contact your child’s teacher.

QUE PASA 4/26/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

      As we continue through the Easter Season and soon begin  May–the month of Mary–let us pray to our Blessed Mother for continued strength.  We strive to keep our faith and be reminded of the joy of new life after a time of great difficulty, as we learned from the glory of Jesus’s resurrection.  Together we can reflect on this prayer from Pope Francis:

O Mary,

You always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm.

You know what we need,

and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after a time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross,to the joy of the resurrection.                                                                           

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God … deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. 

Amen.

We also pray for our 8th graders who are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend!  Their renewal of faith is a joyful reminder of our own continued process to renew our faith this Easter season as we find new life in Christ.

CONFIRMATION MASS

You are welcome to witness our 8th graders be sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit during the San Francisco Archdiocese Confirmation Mass.  Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone will be the celebrant.  The Mass is this Saturday, April 29 at St. Mary’s Cathedral (1111 Gough Street in San Francisco) and begins at 10:00 AM.  Arrive early for parking! 

7th GRADE RETREAT
Please keep our 7th graders in your prayers while they continue their time at camp for their week-long retreat!  They return this Friday afternoon.  Thank you to all their teachers, especially Ms. Bishop and Mr. Manuel, for helping them to prepare for camp; to our parents for their support; and to our volunteer parent cabin leaders for accompanying the 7th graders on their retreat!

Dear Parents,

         I hope you had a blessed Easter with your family! We are now in the EASTER SEASON, but what does living the spirit of the Easter season mean? Here is an Easter season reflection from “Be Fearless, Be Joyful, Be Renewed: Living the Spirit of Easter” (www.loyolapress.com) that could help us to sustain our renewed Easter hope.

Live With Joy.  The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus teach us that suffering is transformed through faith in the Risen Christ. With this faith, we are able to hold on to an enduring sense of joy even in the midst of the sadness we experience from the loss of a loved one, a failure to achieve an important goal, or a setback during recovery from an illness.

Live Without Fear.  The Resurrection teaches us that God can overcome anything, even death. When the Risen Christ appears to the women at the tomb and later to his disciples, his first words are “Do not be afraid!” (Mt 28:5). These words speak to our hearts, helping us cope with fear. Our faith allows us to trust that God can overcome our most serious problems.

Live With New Eyes. Just as the return of spring makes us feel like the whole world is new, the Resurrection of Jesus makes “all things new” (Rev. 21:5).  The Easter spirit is a spirit of renewal that enables us to show up at work with a positive attitude, to renew relationships that have been taken for granted, and to express appreciation and affection to those closest to us. It means to see the world through new eyes—God´s eyes!

The Resurrection reminds us to stay hopeful.  Let’s keep our hearts and minds open to live our core values this Easter season!

As noted on our school calendar, this coming Monday–April 24–is a Minimum Day (12:30 dismissal) in order for teachers to attend a meeting.  

RE-REGISTRATION FOR 2023-2024

The re-registration forms and 2023-2024 tuition rates (printed on lavender paper) have been sent home.  The Re-registration form is due by April 21. These forms help us to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year.

The registration fee per student is due on May 5, 2023, and will help to secure your child’s spot in their class for 2023-2024.

As noted on the letter sent home, the registration fees are as follows:

- Students entering grades K-7: $505

- Students entering 8th grade: $550 (includes 8th grade sweatshirt)

ARK RELIGION TEST

Over these last two weeks in April, students in grades 5 through 8 will be taking the ARK Religion test, a standardized assessment that checks students’ understanding of Religion content, prayers, and practices learned throughout the years.  If you have any questions about this assessment, please check in with your child’s teacher.

This week-long summer camp experience at CYO Camp in Occidental, CA normally costs $895, but because of generous camp scholarships for St. Peter’s students, the cost goes down to $140 per student!

However, Scholarships are LIMITED.  If you are interested in having your child attend CYO Summer Camp with this discounted price, please stop by the office to pick up the registration forms, or call the office so that we may give your child a form to take home.

Space is LIMITED in each camp session.  The camp session dates are as follows:

QUE PASA 4/5/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        Throughout Lent, the students have been learning and acting upon different ways that they can grow closer to God.  Now that we find ourselves in the middle of Holy Week, I hope you find that your journey through Lent has brought you and your family closer to God, and that together, we can keep our faith strong and share the love that God the Father has shown us.  Remember Jesus’ gift of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us on Good Friday so that our sins could be forgiven. Together, take time to say a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s love as we await Jesus’ resurrection on Easter. 

We pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of everlasting life brought about by the resurrection of your son from the dead! This dark night is enlightened by a glimpse of the greatest mystery.  Our minds could never have conceived how you would save us, Lord, nor can we ever fully understand the depths of your love in choosing to do so.  We thank you for all that you have done for us throughout Lent. Now, throughout Easter, grant us the fullness of life.  AMEN.

CALENDAR REMINDERS

Tomorrow, Thursday April 6, is a Minimum Dismissal day.  The School office will close at 1:30 PM.

Students and teachers will be on Easter vacation from April 7-16.

During Easter Vacation, from Monday, April 10 - Friday, April 14, the school office will be open from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, and closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00.

School will resume on Monday, April 17 with a regular schedule (7:55 AM - 3:00 PM).

April 14 is the annual deadline for submitting all information to TADS, the third party needs-evaluation company that the Archdiocese uses to collect the financial data from families. This is consistent with the process we used to award tuition assistance for this year. After the Student Aid Form has been processed by TADS, the Department of Catholic Schools gathers the completed application materials. The Archdiocese of San Francisco is unable to provide financial aid to all students who apply. Applicants are ranked on the basis of financial need. Within the limit of available funds, the Archdiocese of San Francisco will then award financial aid.                                                                                              

 Late applications will NOT be considered. Students must live in Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo Counties to be considered for the Archdiocesan Scholarship. Please visit the other scholarship programs section for more opportunities. Grant notifications will be sent out to the elementary student’s families in late May/early June.  To use the TADS Financial Aid online application go to mytads.com. You will be guided through the application. If you have any questions, you can phone TADS at 800-477-8237.

        With all the different responsibilities we have as parents, we may easily feel overwhelmed and tired.  Yet Lent can be a time for our renewal.  With Holy Week approaching next week, beginning with Palm Sunday this Sunday, let’s not forget how Jesus can be a source of strength and a loving comfort to us, and how we can follow his example to spread that love and be a positive example for our children. 

 

How true are Jesus’ words, which invite those who are tired and weary to come to Him to find rest! His arms outstretched on the cross show that no one is excluded from his love and his mercy, not even the greatest sinner: no one!

Heavenly Father, your son’s death on the cross stands as a testament to your endless love and care for all of us. No one who seeks you out is excluded from your love, no matter what we have done. No one is cut off from your mercy, no matter how great our suffering. Give me the courage, Lord, to always look to Christ crucified as the promise of mercy for me. In this Lenten season, give me the confidence to trust that your love for me will never die. AMEN.

AZTEC TREK UPDATE

The minimum $125 collection for our mandatory school fundraiser, the Aztec Trek, is now past due!  Please submit your child’s Aztec Trek envelope if you have not done so already.  Our Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and games will be held this Friday–March 31.

All students should have returned their signed permission form so that they may join the school on the walk-a-thon to and from Precita Park on March 31. If you have not returned the permission form, please do so right away.  Thank you!

QUE PASA 3/22/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        We are more than halfway through the season of Lent, and the time of Jesus’ death and resurrection are drawing near.  How are you and your family growing closer to God? Reflect on what makes you unwell, not necessarily physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually. What unhealthy thing takes up the space in your heart, mind, and soul that belongs to God?  As the Psalm below says, let us remember that God is merciful and always present, especially in our times of need.

The LORD is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger and of great kindness.

The LORD is good to all

and compassionate toward all his works.

The LORD is faithful in all his words

and holy in all his works.

The LORD lifts up all who are falling

and raises up all who are bowed down.

The LORD is just in all his ways

and holy in all his works.

The LORD is near to all who call upon him,

to all who call upon him in truth.

The Lord is gracious and merciful.

AZTEC TREK UPDATE

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Thank you to all our parents, teachers, and translators for taking the time to meet for Parent-Teacher Conferences last week!  As we are now in the last trimester of the school year, these meetings will help us to continue to support our students’ learning and growth.

If you haven’t done so already, please be sure to sign and return the paper  copy of your child’s report card.  Contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. 

ST. PATRICK’S DAY

For St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, students may wear an appropriate non-uniform green shirt or sweatshirt in place of their usual uniform shirt/sweatshirt.  Students should still be in their uniform bottoms (skirt, navy pants, or Friday sweats) unless they would like to use a free dress pass that they already have.

AZTEC TREK UPDATE

The minimum $125 collection for our mandatory school fundraiser, the Aztec Trek, is now past due!  Please submit your child’s Aztec Trek envelope if you have not done so already.  Our Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and games will be held on March 31.

CYO SUMMER CAMP

CYO Summer Camp registration is open for children ages 8-14!

This week-long summer camp experience at CYO Camp in Occidental, CA normally costs $895, but because of generous camp scholarships for St. Peter’s students, the cost goes down to $140 per student!

However, Scholarships are LIMITED.  If you are interested in having your child attend CYO Summer Camp with this discounted price, please stop by the office to pick up the registration forms, or call the office so that we may give your child a form to take home.

Space is LIMITED in each camp session.  The camp session dates are as follows:

Session One: FULL – No space available

Session Two: July 3 - July 9

Session Three: July 11 - July 17

Session Four: July 19 - July 25

Session Five: July 27 - August 2

The BASIC Fund application for new students is now available online at https://basicfund.org/. Renewal emails for returning students have been sent out.  If parents did not receive a renewal link, email Carmen Martinez at carmen@basicfund.org and ask for another link.

Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2023 in order to be considered for a scholarship for the next school year 2023-2024.

April 15 is the annual deadline for submitting all information to TADS, the third party needs-evaluation company that the Archdiocese uses to collect the financial data from families. This is consistent with the process we used to award tuition assistance for this year. After the Student Aid Form has been processed by TADS, the Department of Catholic Schools gathers the completed application materials. The Archdiocese of San Francisco is unable to provide financial aid to all students who apply. Applicants are ranked on the basis of financial need. Within the limit of available funds, the Archdiocese of San Francisco will then award financial aid.                                                                                              

Late applications will NOT be considered. Students must live in Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo Counties to be considered for the Archdiocesan Scholarship. Please visit the other scholarship programs section for more opportunities. Grant notifications will be sent out to the elementary student’s families in late May/early June.  To use the TADS Financial Aid online application go to mytads.com. You will be guided through the application. If you have any questions, you can phone TADS at 800-477-8237.

We continue to endure the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  To prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school, we have developed a School Infection Mitigation Plan, which was given to each parent on the first day of school as part of the Parent-Student Handbook.  The Infection Mitigation Plan is also available on our school website at http://www.stpeterssf.org/pandemic-reopening-plan

Please remember -- If your child is feeling ill or has been exposed to COVID-19, phone the school office and keep your child at home!

QUE PASA 3/8/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        This week, our Parent-Teacher Conferences continue as we aim to strengthen the home-school partnership.  As parents, we strive to be role models of open hearts and open minds for our children; and during Lent we can reflect and recommit to this task.  At school, we encourage each other to develop a growth mindset and live our St. Peter’s School KEYS so that we can open our hearts and minds.  Lent pushes us to dig out of our souls all the things that have clogged our hearts, the little sins that we clench in our fists, keeping us from opening our hands, hearts, and minds freely. God is offering to not only lift the burden from our shoulders, but also to help in rebalancing our load in the future. Tossing those small bad habits, pushing aside bitterness and resentment so that we might love God with our whole heart, and with all our strength.  Now and beyond Lent, we should make time to turn to God in prayer and for strength.

What is weighing you down? How might you prayerfully sort through what takes up room in your heart and mind? What habits and grudges can be cleared out, left behind?

God, take away what clutters our hearts, feed us with your Word, so that we might have the strength and freedom to love you with all our hearts, all our souls, all our being.

Thank you to all who have already turned in their minimum $125 collection for our mandatory school fundraiser, the Aztec Trek!  The final due date for the collection envelope TOMORROW– March 9, and the Aztec Trek Walk-a-thon and games will be held on March 31.

Remember–the more money that you collect, the more prizes you receive and the more points your class will receive towards a class prize!

Kindergarten - Thomas Aragon always has a kind word to say.  He knows how to play well with others and has a positive attitude. He works hard, is respectful in church, follows directions, and has the biggest smile on his face. He is helpful towards his friends and does his best with every task. He has shown that he loves to learn and is ready to learn more. He is curious, kind, respectful, brave and resilient. Congratulations, Thomas!

1st Grade - Ariana Pineda Martinez is kind to her classmates and respects authority. She tries her best during class time to complete class work. She follows playground rules and classroom rules. Congratulations, Ariana!

2nd Grade - Mateo Rojas demonstrates the St. Peter's KEY of LOVE. He is always lifting up his classmates and cheering them on! In addition, he works hard in class and is always growing as a learner. Great job, Mateo!

3rd Grade - Camila Martinez has been a leader in the classroom by being respectful, responsible and safe. She shows great effort in all the work that she does in the classroom and will try her best in all she does. She also supports her group mates and her classmates by helping when she can. She shows she is GROWing and ACCOMPLISHing with our school core values. Thank you for being part of our classroom Camila!

4th Grade - Alani Alas has been a shining example of a student who embodies our school's KEYS.  She works hard each day to continue her growth as a student.  She is an amazing teammate and friend.  She played a big part in the 4th and 5th Grade Soccer Team who won their championship game recently.  Her willingness to help and serve in class highlights the kind of person she is.  Keep up the amazing work Alani!  You are a star.

5th Grade - Sonia Estrada embraces the responsibility required to maintain progress in her schoolwork and other personal goals. She treats classmates, teachers, and staff with respect by valuing each as an individual, respecting differences, and valuing the work that others do. Brava, Sonia!

6th Grade - Alejandra Nava Gomez is a hardworking individual who is thoughtful, honest, and creative! She's always helpful and demonstrates excellent leadership skills that I know she will carry with her as she ages. Ale's love and honesty play a big part in our classroom space. Her ability to love her classmates and teacher makes our classroom a special place. 

7th Grade - Genesis Ixcal Vasquez is filled with curiosity and creativity; she asks thoughtful questions that demonstrate genuine engagement and approaches challenges with confidence and grace. She is mature, hard-working, and kind-hearted to everyone around her. Genesis, thank you for all that you are!

8th Grade - Cecilia Farias Tietze has been such a joy to have in the classroom. She continues to accomplish and love so much this year. Her enthusiasm and positivity radiates in everything she does. She is willing and always ready to tackle the task at hand. Cecilia is also a team player, genuinely caring for others in and outside the classroom. I believe she can continue these great qualities when she moves on to high school. Keep up the awesome work Ceci!

This Friday marks the end of Trimester 2; therefore it is time for teachers to share report cards with parents and students.  Report cards will be discussed at the mandatory Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up next week.

On Class Dojo, each teacher shared a link to sign up for a Parent-Teacher Zoom conference for March 7, 8, or 9.  (March 7-9 will all be Minimum Dismissal days.)  If you have not already done so, please choose a conference time slot in order to meet with your child’s teacher.  These conferences are important as we continue to support student growth and learning.

MARCH LUNCH CALENDAR

School lunches are $3.00 for the entree, $0.75 for water, and $0.75 for SunChips.  Students may order school lunches daily at the cafeteria, or parents may place orders on the Cafeteria VENMO account @StPeters-Lunch.  Venmo lunch orders must be completed by 8:30 AM.  You may also order lunches ahead of time (for the week or month) on Venmo.  Be sure to include your child’s name, grade, and items to be ordered.

Remember that school lunches may NOT be dropped off at the school office during the school day.  On regular dismissal days, students bring a lunch from home, or order a lunch from the cafeteria.  We also encourage students to bring a SNACK to eat during morning recess.

QUE PASA 2/22/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        Today, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent. This is a special liturgical season when we take time to pray, reflect, repent, and renew so that we can grow closer to God as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Throughout Lent, I’d like to offer a reflection (from Daily Reflections for Lent: Not By Bread Alone) as we journey through Lent with each other and with our children:  

“Ash Wednesday is marked with a somber sign of our faith.  The cross on our forehead is meant to leave a lasting imprint deep within, like a spiritual tattoo that will linger long after we complete the 40-day course.  The sacrifices and prayers of the season help us clear a path, but we can’t stop there, not if we want to experience real transformation. God wants nothing less than our hearts broken open so that he might find a resting place within and make us whole. Yes, the exterior practices are important, but what matters most is what happens unseen within our hearts and souls.” 

Heavenly Father, guide us in the right ways as we begin our Lenten journey. Give us the courage to allow ourselves to be transformed by your love. Help us to use our Lenten sacrifices to dig deeper into our spiritual center and carve out a space for you alone. AMEN.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to our fifteen First Communicants who received Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament for the first time over the weekend.  This is a momentous event in their faith journey!

Thank you to our First Communion teacher, Mrs. Gurleyen, for all her guidance and preparation, and for all our families for supporting the First Communicants as they worked toward this milestone.

SCHOOL CALENDAR REMINDER

This week, we have a long holiday weekend for Presidents’ Day.  There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20.

FIRST COMMUNION MASS

This Saturday, February 18, fifteen St. Peter’s students will be receiving their First Holy Communion.  You are welcome to join in this Eucharistic celebration.  Mass will begin at 2:30 PM.

All of our First Communicants are in our prayers at this special time in their faith journey!

SCHOOL PANORAMIC PICTURE DAY

St. Peter’s Lifetouch Panoramic Picture Day will take place on Tuesday, February 21.  This is a school group photo that is taken on the schoolyard.

        February is upon us! Since Valentine’s Day is in February, I associate the month of February with one of our school’s core values–LOVE.  February is also the month of the Holy Family, a family that we may look towards as an example of unconditional love.  Below is a prayer that we can offer together to remind us of our love for our families, and to remind us that we are a school family working together to help our children open their hearts and minds. As stated in our school philosophy–We are a family–somos una familia–with parents, students, and educators working together.

JESUS, Son of God and Son of Mary, bless our family. Graciously inspire in us the unity, peace, and mutual love that you found in your own family in the little town of Nazareth.

SCHOOL CALENDAR REMINDERS

Please note that this Monday, February 13, is a Minimum Dismissal Day for students so that teachers may attend a professional development meeting.

Next week, we also have a long holiday weekend for Presidents’ Day.  There is no school on Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20.

STAR ASSESSMENTS

This week, we continue with the 3rd round of STAR assessments for all students.  STAR assessments are required by the Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools, and these assessments provide one data point in students’ academic progress.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

VALENTINE’S DAY TREATS

For Valentine’s Day (February 14), students may distribute pre-packaged snacks or treats and/or non-edible items (such as pencils or stickers) to their classmates.  Please be sure that your child has enough items to distribute to each person in his/her class.

Teachers will let you know how many students are in each class.

SPRING PICTURE DAY

St. Peter’s Lifetouch Spring Picture Day will take place on Tuesday, February 14.  These photos are OPTIONAL for students to take.

TRIMESTER 2 PROGRESS REPORTS

Last week, Progress Reports for Trimester 2 were sent home.  Progress Reports provide a snapshot of your child’s progress, giving time to maintain grades or submit work for improvement before the end of the trimester Report Card arrives.  

Signed and returned Progress Reports are now past due. Please sign and return your child’s progress report if you have not already done so.  If you have any questions regarding the progress report, please contact your child’s teacher.

Congratulations to our January Students of the Month!

Kindergarten - Kehlani Davila Flores comes to school with the biggest smile. She is ready to learn and will always ask the class to quiet down. She cares about her learning and others as well. When someone is having a bad day, she will be the first to give them a hug and tell them that everything is going to be okay. She is an amazing student who works hard on everything and gives it her all. No matter what we are working on, she does the work with a smile. Congratulations, Kehlani!

1st Grade - Gavin Contreras follows playground rules and tries his best during class time to finish assignments. He treats his classmates with respect. Keep up the good work. Congratulations, Gavin!

2nd Grade - Leonardo Perez shows a great attitude, hard work, and is a good friend to others. He jumps right into his work, whether it is math or reading. He is always one of the first to volunteer to help out, demonstrating the St. Peter's KEY of LOVE. Way to go, Leo!

3rd Grade - Marcus Ceron Ramos participates a lot in our classroom discussion and shows out-of-the-box thinking for both ELA and Math subjects. He shows respect towards others and is responsible with daily classroom activities. He also shows that he can GROW and ACCOMPLISH with the work he does in class. Thank you for being part of our classroom. Marcus!

4th Grade - Minerva Chamul Lopez has been a shining example of a student who embodies our school's KEYS.  She earned 2nd Honors last grading period and works hard each day to continue her growth as a student.  She is an amazing friend and is willing to help and serve in class.  Keep up the amazing work, Minerva!  You are a star. 

5th Grade - Damian Perez Ortega displays excellent academic focus and effort in class. He is always prepared and ready and eager to learn. He is also the first to lend a helping hand to his classmates and teacher. Bravo, Damian!

6th Grade - Angel Carvajal has shown tremendous growth in his learning and has demonstrated his ability to have a growth mindset. He displays his ability to persevere through difficult obstacles that often come with learning and trying something new.  He keeps up a positive demeanor in class, and shows a willingness to overcome the fear of the unknown. Congratulations, Angel!

7th Grade - Annarelly Contreras is beyond kind, attentive, and respectful. She is curious and observant, which speaks to her strong work ethic. She is always exhibiting our grow, love, and serve KEYS through her optimism and helpful nature. You're such a lovely soul, and we are proud of you and your gentle character, Annarelly!

8th Grade - Miguel Ayala has exhibited growth and has pushed himself to be his better self–academically and socially–this year in 8th grade. He asks the necessary questions and offers thought-provoking responses in class discussion. Miguel has also united with his classmates as a member of our 8A community. He continues to show his potential and has been a great addition to the class! Way to go, Miguel!

Almighty Father,

You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people.  As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education.  As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.  Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools.  Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today.  Thank you for the parents who have given support to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives.  Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

TRIMESTER 2 PROGRESS REPORTS

CONGRATULATIONS!

Two big accomplishments occurred last week!

- Our First Communicants received the sacrament of First Reconciliation for the first time!  They are all one step closer to receiving their First Holy Eucharist later this month.  Thank you to their teacher, Mrs. Gurleyen, and our parish priest, Father Gerardo Vazquez, for helping to coordinate this special event.

- Our 4/5 girls soccer team won their CHAMPIONSHIP after completing an undefeated season!  Huge thanks to their volunteer coaches, Raquel Rangel and Leslie Dominguez, for dedicating their time and energy for the team, and all the parents and families for the support.  GO AZTECS!

MORNINGS IN KINDERGARTEN and SHADOW VISITS

Spread the word!  Students entering Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year are invited to participate in “Mornings in Kindergarten.”  While parents take a tour of the school, the prospective Kindergartener will spend some time in the Kindergarten classroom.  

Students entering grades 1-7 for the 2023-2024 school year are invited to participate in “Shadow Visits,” when they spend some time in their grade-level classroom, and take their entrance exam afterwards.
