QUE PASA 9/13/2023 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

Yesterday, celebrating our first Mass of the school year led me to reflect on the Sacraments and the meaning they have in our lives. I thought about the significance of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and I was drawn to re-read an article found on www.usccb.org (by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops).  I share part of that here:

We recognize that the Sacraments have a visible and invisible reality, a reality open to all the human senses but grasped in its God-given depths with the eyes of faith. … The visible reality we see in the Sacraments is their outward expression, the form they take, and the way in which they are administered and received. The invisible reality we cannot "see" is God's grace, his gracious initiative in redeeming us through the death and Resurrection of his Son. His initiative is called grace because it is the free and loving gift by which he offers people a share in his life, and shows us his favor and will for our salvation. Our response to the grace of God's initiative is itself a grace or gift from God by which we can imitate Christ in our daily lives.

The saving words and deeds of Jesus Christ are the foundation of what he would communicate in the Sacraments through the ministers of the Church.  Guided by the Holy Spirit, the Church recognizes the existence of Seven Sacraments instituted by the Lord. Through the Sacraments, God shares his holiness with us so that we, in turn, can make the world holier.

As a family, I encourage you to live out the faith by attending Sunday Mass and joining us at school Mass when possible, and witness the grace of God in receiving the Sacraments!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT

Back-to-School Night is TONIGHT–Wednesday, September 13, beginning at 5:30 PM in the church.  Following the meeting in the church, parents may visit classrooms for a general grade-level information meeting with teachers.

If you need help with child care, BVCC will be open so that parents may attend Back-to-School Night.

* Parking will be very limited, so we encourage carpooling, public transportation, or walking to school for Back-to-School Night!

SPECIAL SURVEY

A FAMILY INCOME SURVEY has been sent home with the oldest child in each family.  These surveys help our school participate in the Title I, Part A Federal Program. This very important program provides extra academic and social-emotional support for our students.  Please complete the survey and return it to your child’s teacher by the September 28 due date.  Thank you for your support and cooperation!

MISSION PARISHES CELEBRATION

St. Anthony's/Immaculate Conception, St. Charles, and St. Peter's, otherwise known as our Mission Parishes, will be having a weeklong celebration to commemorate each of their respective patron saints!

Join us for any or all of the celebrations this week, ending with the big festival on September 17.

* Please see the flyers posted on Class Dojo for times and locations.

FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION

If your child is in 3rd through 8th grade and has been baptized, but has not yet received First Holy Communion, please contact the office by September 15. St. Peter’s School could help with the process so that he/she will receive First Holy Communion this Spring along with our First Communicants in 2nd grade.

DIMES FROM HEAVEN

Continue to show your school spirit this week with our Student Council fundraiser, Dimes from Heaven!  We will raise money for Student Council events, and we’re donating part of the proceeds to victims of the Maui fires.  It’s also a class competition to see which class raises the most money, so your class has a chance to win an ice cream treat!  Student Council doesn’t just take dimes… they take all money, dollars and cents!

SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE FOR OUR BELOVED SISTER MARIAN ROSE

A Mass in honor of our beloved Sister Marian Rose Power will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 PM at St. Peter’s Church.  We will remember her love and legacy at St. Peter’s School, as she served the school community as administrator and volunteer for over 40 years.  We will also be remembering former principal Sr. Rosann Fraher, former teacher and St. Peter’s Alum Sr. Mary Edith Hurley, and St. Peter’s Alumni.  You are invited to join in this celebration.

We are looking for volunteers to help in the setup and clean up for the special reception after the Mass.  If you are available to help, please call the school office at 415-647-8662.

DROP-OFF ZONES
When dropping off or picking up your child/children, please do not park or leave your car unattended in the white zone or in the schoolyard driveway.  These areas must remain open to help ease the flow of traffic and must be available in case of emergencies.  Thank you for your cooperation!

BVCC AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

In order to attend the BVCC after school program, students MUST be registered for the 2023-2024 school year.  Students who are not registered will not be allowed to attend the after school program, and must be picked up or on their way home at the school’s dismissal time.

For questions about BVCC, please contact Rochelle Celedon at 415-713-0625 (rochelle.bvcc@gmail.com) or Judy Diaz at 415-283-5545 (judy.bvcc@gmail.com).

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We live our core value to UNITE as students wear their school uniform with pride.  Please remember that the complete daily uniform includes the plain white polo shirt, navy slacks or uniform skirt/jumper, green uniform sweatshirt, black or white socks, and solid black or solid white sneakers (tennis shoes).

On Fridays (unless there is a church service), students may wear the optional gray Aztecs hoodie, Aztecs sweatpants, and Aztecs T-shirt.

** To purchase the gray Aztecs sweats, obtain an order form in the school office.

For more details on the school uniform, refer to the Uniform section of the Parent-Student Handbook that was distributed on the first day of school, which is also available on the school website: http://www.stpeterssf.org/parents-students

Students who are out of uniform will receive a “Uniform Notice” to be signed by a parent or guardian, as a reminder about the uniform policy, and to help us unite as a school community!
